The Reporter's Free Cooking School closed in a blaze of enthusiasm yesterday afternoon with a jammed Colonial theatre audience and bidding wars on prizes. Mrs. Mark D. Jones won both the gas range and the refrigerator, while Mrs. Ovid Knowlton led for the Boone Kitchen Cabinet. Prize baskets and extra prizes were awarded to many attendees, and demand for another session next year runs high. Local merchants’ cooperation supported the event and may yield a repeat success.

Wysong spoke A Plea For Cuba and Ashley The United States Constitution, drawing hearty applause. Mrs. Cora M. Farm Fire on Nelson Farm Destroys Barn and Crib
Fire of undetermined origin yesterday destroyed a 50 by 86 foot barn and a 28 by 40 foot corn crib on the Nelson farm two miles east of Scircleville. Loss estimated at 4000 to 5000 dollars with 1000 bushels of corn, hay, farm implements and a valuable stock. Neighbors saved the house but the barn and crib burned for hours. The fire department from Kempton battled wells and cisterns to no avail. Tenants Charles Scott and family and owner Mrs. Hanna Nelson faced the loss. insurance details were unclear.

Two Die In Woodcliffe Lake House Fire
Hillsdale New Jersey May 16 Mrs Henry S Wise and Mrs Henrietta Denfield were burned to death when fire destroyed the Wise home at Woodcliffe Lake. Frances eight and Andrew six, children of Mrs Wise, were rescued but firefighters could not reach the two women who were asleep on the upper floor.

Mrs Caplinger Dies in Advance at 79 in Indiana Origin
Louise Jane Caplinger 79 and five months died at home in Advance at 3 10 pm Friday after a long illness. Born in Johnson County Indiana she moved to Boone County in 1872 settled near Advance then later in Advance. Surviving children include Amanda Shelley Samuel Caplinger Santford Caplinger Laura Hedge Dudley Caplinger James Caplinger Carmen Caplinger and George W Caplinger with 23 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. One sister and one brother live in Greenwood. Funeral at East Christian Church Sunday at 2 pm with three reverends officiating burial in Old Union Cemetery.
