Leslie Diane Standifer, 44, of Scottsburg Indiana, charged with murdering a woman whose body was found in Great Smoky Mountains last August, pleaded innocent in federal court. Trial set for July 27, bond kept at $100,000. Mrs. Moore, wife of Dr. Loren Moore, once administrator of Zionville Baptist Home for the Elderly, lived at the home. Standifer arrested in Los Angeles in May.
About 125 Speedway residents gathered to urge town action and funding for crowd control and sanitation at the post race meeting. Boone Sheriff Department raided a northern Boone County garden late this morning yielding 510 mature marijuana plants in a 10 by 40 foot area. Lt. Tom Griffiths said the day’s haul is part of a three-location operation with over 800 plants seized and an estimated street value of $2000. One arrest reported as Deputies Barnes and Pestridge made the capture. others remain under observation as more raids are planned.
Zionsville junior Zara Felice Rolfes has been appointed student member of Purdue University board of trustees for a two year term starting Friday. Gov Otis Bowen selected the mechanical engineering major after screening committees at Purdue and interviews with finalists.
James Forester submitted his resignation as principal of Central Elementary School and seeks to remain on Lebanon Schools teaching staff. The Board will meet Friday at 8:30 a.m. for annual organization with public session. executive session at 8 a.m. The agenda includes officer elections, salary limits, treasurer appointments, counsel and physician appointments, and two new teacher contracts for Thomas Rather and Felix.
