Beth Ann Maines Crowned Little Miss Boone County 1970
Beth Ann Maines the five and a half year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil L. Maines Jr. won the 1970 Little Miss Boone County title among 27 contestants at the July 4 festival. First runner-up was Susanne Rex and second runner-up Lori Diane Ailes. Judges based scoring on personality showmanship cooperation and beauty. The crowd gathered on Court House Lawn as Zonta Club sponsored the event providing crown roses and banner. Beth Ann will attend Perry-Worth in the fall and enjoys bicycle rides and caring for kittens. The winner will participate in festival events and the parade with her court. Former Little Miss winners Cheryl Livingston Tammy Ferguson and Christine Breedlove attended.

VFW Flags Available For July 4th Display
American flags are offered by the Lebanon VFW on a limited basis. Irwin Hodgen leads a flag display committee with prices for a flag, pole and rope set at 15 dollars and permanent concrete installation at 25 dollars. The Boone County Courthouse will fly flags at its corners and local merchants join the display. It is noted that over 1,200 flags fly in Lebanon during holidays, and residents are reminded not to drape flags over moving vehicles in parades.

Gorrell Family Sells Journal to Fairbanks Editor
The Pulaski County Journal in Winamac Indiana changes hands for the first time in 80 years. Calvin Sunderland, formerly of Fairbanks Alaska, buys the weekly from Janet Gorrell Meyer and Richard Dodd. The paper’s lineage traces to 1858 with Gorrell ownership since 1891 and Ned Gorrell as editor before his 1968 death. Mrs Meyer is Ned Gorrell’s daughter.

Mistrial Declared In Million Dollar Gas Explosion Suit
Judge Charles F. Thompson declared a mistrial in a million dollar damage suit after a juror was seen speaking with the plaintiff Hoffman a World War II veteran and carpenter for Imperial Equipment Co claims the LP gas explosion at Decatur High School caused permanent injuries. Four of five defendants were dismissed for lack of proof of negligence leaving Dunlap Co Plumbing as the remaining defendant with a retrial date not set.

Lebanon plans its largest parade yet on July 4 with a special promo giving away 1,500 hot dogs from Walsh's TV and Appliance starting at 1 p.m. The event features Rick Mount and Jimmy Clemens in decorated cars, a parade marshal area map in Thursday's Lebanon Reporter, and strict parking restrictions along the parade route.

A Fayette man, 31, was arrested by Sheriff W E Allen as he began celebrating the holiday at 3 a.m. driving on SR 267 honking horns yelling and singing. Daniel Earl, father of six, was cited for public intoxication and driving under the influence and set to appear in Lebanon City Court.
