U.S. Copter Shot Down In Central Viet Nam
UPI reports Communist guerrillas shot down a U S Army HU1 turbojet helicopter five miles east of Hiep Duc in Quang Tin province. Two Americans were killed, two wounded, including one officer and one enlisted man. The crash occurred on a jungle slope of a 1000 foot mountain in central Viet Nam.

Pilotless Plane Explodes In Mass Crash Killing Two Children
In Haverhill Massachusetts a pilotless jet fighter crashed into three homes and parked cars ripping through a residential block. Two children Pamela Gifford aged 11 and Todd Gifford aged 8 were killed. Pilot Captain Dalbert F Sullivan ejected and survived, later rescued from the Merrimack River. Firefighters battled flames for over an hour as witnesses described a massive explosion and a scene of devastation.

Coast Guard ends search for missing long distance swimmer
The Coast Guard suspended the hunt for Britt Sullivan of Sellersburg Indiana who vanished while swimming from Montauk Point toward Europe in shark infested Atlantic waters near Long Island. A final dawn search failed to locate any trace of the 29 year old former Navy Wave as boats helicopters and an amphibious plane scoured the area.
