Local Cancer Groups Fight National Edict in Indiana

Boone County Cancer Society leads 19 Indiana units in opposing the American Cancer Society policy banning county units from federated fund drives. Counties Delaware, Grant, Henry Noble, Wells, Hamilton, Decatur, Randolph, Allen, Whiteley, Steuben, Miami, Wabash, Lake, Legrange, Eckhart, Wayne and Huntington join in a resolution urging local control of fund drives and budgets while maintaining support for center research. He is listed in fair condition at Memoria Hospital in St Joseph. Moonlit Teens Dare End in Pool Incident

Two 15 year old Thorntown boys swam at Seashore pool at 3 30 am after a dare. They allegedly hopped a fence from Thorntown to Lebanon, swam under moonlight, and alerted Lebanon police. They will appear in Justice of the Peace court this week to explain their actions.

Dr Joan Wo Barkley, longtime Lebanon Centenary Methodist pastor from Issantil November 1953, was reassigned at the Michigan Conference meeting June 8 and now serves at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 10325 E. Jefferson, Detroit. Barkley left a five year Lebanon pastorate for advancement as associate minister of Metropolitan Methodist Church in Detroit, joining a church staff of ten.

Driver Cited In Auto Wreck in Lebanon

In Lebanon at Main and South streets a Sunday morning crash injured no one. Myron Lee Rogers, 34, Indianapolis, was cited for failing to keep his vehicle under control after rear ending John Everett O' Farris who stopped for a four way stop. Damage totaled $1,200 with Farris’s car at $700 and Rogers’s at $500. Rogers faces a July 3 court appearance.

John E. Whiteman Dies In Advance

John E. Whiteman age 72, farmer from Jamestown, died Saturday at his daughter’s home in Advance where he had lived since his wife’s death in January. Farmer Hurt By Hay Pulley Near Lebanon

Everett Perkins, a Boone Dunly farmer, was injured Saturday when his hand became lodged in a hay pulley driven by a tractor. Neighbor Robert Strawmyer started the tractor to release him, and Perkins was brought to Witham Hospital where doctors reported damaged finger tissue but no broken bones.

Russell J. Dean Dies at 57 Influential Indiana Figure

Russell J. Dean 57, Indiana Democrat and longtime lawyer with ties to Mayor Bayt, died of a heart attack at his Indianapolis home.
