Rotary Picnic Planned by Lebanon group and families

Rotarians at Lebanon plan an all day picnic at Dick's Pine near Darlington with about fifty attending. They depart at 1 p.m. in autos from the northwest family. The day features include welcome address, musical numbers, reading, games, contests, boxing exhibition, baseball, pie eating, parachute leap, and a Rotary balloon ascent.

Gilmore Returns From State Legion Convention

Archie Gilmore arrived from Vincennes today after representing the Himmett Brown Post at the state American Legion convention held Monday and Tuesday. He served on the credentials committee and will report on the convention at the local post meeting Monday night where he will be in charge in the commander’s absence. Col. L. R. Gignilliat won state commander over William J. Betz by 206 to 180. L. Russell Newgent was re elected state adjutant. The convention supported a state memorial by 40 000 former service men.

City Recoats Streets With Crude Oil Tanks Arrive

A second tank of crude oil for Lebanon city streets arrived yesterday and work to smear it on will resume today. About one fifth of the area was covered by the 10,000 gallons from the first car. Three more cars have been ordered to coat every major thoroughfare in use.

Sheridan Named as Possible Supreme Court Pick in Indiana

Frankfort attorney Sheridan is favored as a successor to Lawson Harvey on the Indiana Supreme Court. Gov Goodrich and state chairman E B Wasmuth likely to confer this week. Other contender is Charles C Roemier of Indianapolis. appointment by the governor would also align with the Republican nomination for Third district.

Today marks the seventy fifth birthday of John E Richey a longtime Lebanon resident and former owner manager of the Richey House hotel He was born in Lebanon and has spent his life here He retired from active business after selling his hotel eight years ago and is in good health as friends offer felicitations.

Boxwell Funeral Held for Man Who Died by Own Action

Funeral services for Fred Boxwell, who killed himself during forgery arrest by Sheriff D N Lewis, were conducted at his West Pearl Street home at 10:30 this morning. Burial followed at Japle Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown with George Deuel officiating.
