The first open air meeting of the year will be held Sunday evening on the north side of the public square. Ex Governor Ralston will deliver a patriotic address and Mr Kalton will speak. Parking facilities will be provided for automobiles and carriages and special seats for singers will be arranged to enhance the service.
In a period of national service talk, youths aged sixteen to twenty-one are urged to enroll in the Boys Working Reserve under Labor Department oversight. The program aims to place teens in farm work or other duties to support the war effort, with local directors coordinating placements in nearby communities.

A new Buick owned by Peter Shirley of Fayette collapsed in a yard yesterday afternoon while being shown to neighbor Fred Tharp. Tharp apparently pressed the accelerator by mistake causing a dive toward a fence, breaking a wheel and bending the frame. No injuries reported. car taken to Jebus Airhart garage for repairs.
The church schedules Sunday activities led by Minister Charles A. Parkin with morning worship at 10:45 and Epworth League at 7:20. A patriotic open air meeting at the court house tomorrow night features Former Gov. Ralston as speaker.

G H Watts of 42 Wal Street Lebanon testifies Doan's Kidney Pills relieved his kidney pain backache and dizziness. He notes improvement from frequent kidney secretions and says the cure remained effective since 1915. The ad promotes 60 cent price at Oak Drug Store and other dealers.
A local program at Mt Avon featured songs such as Battle Hymn of the Republic and Star Spangled Banner. Audience included Rev BLL Abyers and Mrs. J D Bimmert with performances by Wallace Beck, Marie Emmert, Mayelle Carrol, and six girls.

Thoms Phelps aged seventy died at his Mace home after a year long illness from a stroke. Born in Virginia he came to the region after the war. He married Rhoda Johnson in 1867 and is survived by his wife. A retired farmer he was active in the G A R post R A B lodge at New Ross and the Christian church. Funeral Sunday at 2:30 from the Mace church with G A R and K P services. Interment in Kui PL cemetery.
A dealer advertisement touts Hall's Catarrh Cure as a universal remedy for catarrh, claiming it cures the constitutional disease through internal action on blood and mucous surfaces. The piece asserts the remedy strengthens the patient and supports the body against catarrhal disease.
A L Ward outlines Sunday school at 9:00 and morning worship at 10:20 with no evening service. The gospel sermon titled Gods Dynamite will be preached, Mrs. Clark Lindsay to sing, special organ numbers by Miss Goldiene Groves, and the young people class to meet at 6:30. Ex Governor Samuel Ralston will address at 7:30 in a city union service kickoff.

The Union township public schools held their commencement at Big Springs last night with ten graduates. Emerson KE Ballard delivered the address. An orchestra from Zionsville provided the music as diplomas were presented by KLM Servies.
The city delayed the dog license deadline to July 10 as only 52 owners had licensed their dogs. Sixty five owners had not paid, and after July 10 the delinquent names will be sent to the city attorney to prepare affidavits for prosecution.
All dog owners receive extension to July 10 to pay the license under city ordinance. After that date nonpayers will have their names turned over to the city's attorney and prosecutions will follow. William Smith, City Clerk.
Marion township turned in 806 dollars to the Red Cross fund yesterday evening. Thorntown has sent nothing yet and Burgie township must report pledged cards. Over 3600 dollars remain to be turned in before Boone county's total is complete. The Red Cross room in the courthouse is not active today. Surgical dressing work will reopen Monday on the third floor. People may visit the Red Cross room for directions to the dressing work room. Needed items include flat irons plated case knives and scissors. Donations may be reported by telephone.
H. E. Barnard analyzes canned fruit products showing many jellies and jams are made from apple stock and other adulterants. He urges clear labeling to distinguish imitation products from genuine fruit preserves and warns consumers about deceptive coloring and flavors on jars.
Brig Gen William Wright a new general officer born in New Jersey in 1863 rose from second lieutenant in 1885 to aide to Lieutenant General Gates and secretary to the general staff. He is praised as a capable executive and organizer likely to be assigned as adjutant general to a forthcoming French-bound army corps.
A local notice announces Doyle's Gro, operated by Matt Aber, is carrying a full line of fresh and cured meats and inviting customers to call the shop at 646 for details.
The board voted to assess Inter State Public Service Company $180,000 above tangible property. John H. Kincaid of Jefferson Township received a $100 reduction for a horse death and listed $140 for additional improvements. John M. Martin of Center Township got a $30 reduction due to a horse death. William F. Pettiger of Je Township has an additional item.
