Antle Succeeds Wiseheart as Lebanon Rotary President

Herman E. Antle was installed as president of the Lebanon Rotary Club succeeding Dr. Robert Wiseheart who wrapped up a year of leadership noted for statewide scholarship support and promoting the international exchange program. New officers include James Mason as vice president Russell Smith treasurer and T L Christian secretary with Lester Jones assisting at installation. Visitors included Tom Bowers of Indianapolis and George Bury of Lakewood Ohio.

Pool Party Leaves Park Swim Area Littered with Bottles

Seashore Pool workers cleaned up more than four cases of beer and wine bottles cigarette butts and litter tossed into the water after a night long party. No major property damage reported.

Local calendar lists July events in Lebanon from July 1 to July 8 1968. Welcome Wagon pet parade square events basketball tournaments finals ice cream social and band performances appear at East Side Square Community Building Armory and Park venues with activities including art show stamp and coin collectors parade floats jet flyover fireworks and outdoor basketball finals scheduled across parks and courts.

New Tax Rite Due July 15th

President Johnson signed a 10 percent tax increase after an 18 month battle with Congress. Higher withholding deductions will start July 15 and affect American wage earners. In the White House Rose Garden he said the move aims to brake inflation and attack its roots amid rising interest rates and deteriorating world trade.

Man Falls From Airliner Near Springfield

Springfield dispatch reports a man fell 8000 feet from a DC3 over southwest Missouri while 23 passengers aboard, including Jerrold Potter of Pontiac Illinois, were uninjured. The door opened suddenly during flight to a Lions convention in Dallas, prompting a search for the body as FAA weighs cause.

Longtime Business Leader Claude Potts Dies at 62

Claude A Potts 62 longtime Lebanon businessman died at 850 am at Witham Memorial Hospital after entering Friday. An autopsy will determine cause. He served as Hospital Board president and secretary at death. Potts led Lebanon Chamber director since 1959 and as executive director in recent years. He fostered new industries and supported Crossroads Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb 26 1906 near Attica and held many industry and civic roles. The family home is 916 West Camp Street. Survivors include his wife Dorothea and daughter Ruth Ann Potts with two brothers. a sister is deceased. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Four Killed in Rush County Crash on Indiana Road

United Press International reports the pre holiday weekend toll rising with seven deaths in three crashes within hours. A camper truck collided head on with a car near Milroy, killing four including three from an Ohio family and injuring three others.

Pair Receive Minor Injuries In Truck Crash

An accident about 3:20 p.m. Friday four miles north of Lebanon on State Road 39 involved Robert Kaser and his son Thomas, in a 1963 Chevy Dump Truck. The elder Kaser tried to pass a farm tractor when steering failure caused loss of control. the truck rolled onto its side, both men suffered bruises and minor cuts, and were taken to Witham Hospital. Damages to the truck were extensive. State Troopers W. E. Allen and Butch Smith were investigating.

New Queen To Be Named At Dance Tonight

Five finalists remain for the Mrs. Boone County title after judging at the Elks club. Winners will be announced at the Coronation Ball at 9 30 p m tonight in the Lebanon Armory with former queens, officials, and judges attending the event and dinner.

Two Shot To Death In Indianapolis Shootings

In Indianapolis two men were killed and another seriously wounded in late Friday night to early today. James J. Bell 21 was shot near downtown, Mahlon Gilbert 38 was killed and Clemon Guyton 27 was wounded on the near northside. James Ross was arrested on preliminary murder charges.

Ribero wins Irish Sweeps Derby at Curragh in upset

American owned Ribero, a 100-6 shot, defeats favorite Sir Iver by one length in the Irish Sweeps Derby at the Curragh. Sir Iver opened at 3-1, Val d Aoste finished third. Ribero is owned by Charles Engelhard of New York and ridden by Lester Piggott.

Tri Kappa Ice Cream Social Set Tuesday at 4-H Grounds

Tri Kappa hosts annual ice cream social to fund philanthropic work at the 4-H Community Building on Tuesday July 2 with serving from 5 p.m. It is a summer homecoming tied to the July Fourth celebration in Lebanon drawing out of town guests and former members. Menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, beans, ice cream, tea and pies. Co chairs are Mrs. John Holloman and Mrs. Pete Obremskey with a large sorority committee handling foods, drinks, dishwashing, publicity, supplies, table clearing, checkout, seating, and cake service. Tickets available from members or at the social.
