70 Employees Strike At Alton Box Lebanon Plant
About 70 workers at the Alton Box Company in Lebanon walked out Tuesday at 2 30 p m as union efforts surface. Negotiations were reported in progress in Indianapolis between company manager John Pratt and Roy Lynch union officials, with details of demands not released. Local pickets seek recognition as a union opposed by company leadership amidst a 10 year Lebanon tenure and prior union vote results.

Whitestown Girl Hurt After Storm-Door Fall
A Whitestown girl identified as Pamela Smithes was rushed to Witham Hospital before noon after a fall through a storm door at her home east of Whitestown. She sustained deep lacerations to the right forearm elbow face and nose. Sheriff James McConnaha assisted and transported her. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Janied Smithes.

Boone County Receives Sesquicentennial Award
Boone County earned a bronze plaque for participation in Indiana's 1966 Sesquicentennial observance. The award, presented by Governor Brann at a dinner at Indiana Central College, honors county efforts with a brass plate inscribed to the Indiana Sesquicentennial Commission. Ralph W. Stark accepted the plaque for Boone County with Mrs. Stark and the Schencks in attendance. Schenck received a silver medallion for his commission work.

Wells Grad Wounded In Vietnam
Lance Corporal Arthur Quanturro, a 1966 Granville Wells High School graduate and Boone County native, is listed seriously wounded in Vietnam with injuries to the back hip and arms. Evacuated from the front, he is receiving care at Da Nang Hospital. Specialst Four Michael Dickerson, son of Mr and Mrs Howard Dickerson, has been returned to the United States after a Vietnam wound and is undergoing physical therapy at Fort Knox Army Hospital Kentucky.

Man Drives Across Washed Out Bridge Near Muncie
Steven Schlagel of Dalville near Muncie crossed a washed out bridge on a rural road, his car leaped over water and his wheels reached the opposite pavement before slipping into a ditch. He and his wife were unhurt, their 14 month old daughter Shelley suffered only a cut lip.

July 4th Festival Tempo Picks Up with Progress and Patriotism
Fourth of July celebrations in Boone County feature a packed schedule from Friday onward. The 4-H Chicken and Pork Barbecue opens at 5 p.m. at the 4-H Grounds, with a Sock Hop at 8 p.m. at the tennis courts, headlined by Tomorrow's Needs. Fun Day on Saturday includes a Decorated Bike Contest at 1:30 p.m. and Little Miss Boone County with 47 entrants, judged starting at 3:30 p.m. Talent and horseshoe events follow, with Hoosier Hysteria and summer basketball prep, then Vesper Services and fireworks Sunday night at Sky-Vue. The week closes with table tennis finals, a square dance, and the Fourth of July parade events on Tuesday, highlighted by a jet flyover and an Indianapolis-based Hook’s float, plus a park industrial exhibit, a Legion dance, and fireworks through July 8.

Lifeguard Saves Brownsburg Girl at Lebanon Pool
Susan Clark a Lebanon High School graduate and lifeguard at the Lebanon pool saved a 13 year old Brownsburg girl who was found face down in deep water. She pulled the girl ashore performed mouth to mouth resuscitation until she began to pink and breathe. Pool manager Richard Payne praised the guards for their training and prompt action. An ambulance was summoned as a precaution but not needed. The mother accompanied the girl home.

Weight Increase In Parcel Mailing Effective July 1
William Whiteley acting Leb anon Postmaster announced increases in parcel weight and size effective July 1. First class offices 150 miles apart may send 25 pound parcels, up from 20. Subsequent increases follow: 1968 to 30 pounds, 1969 to 40 pounds, 1970 size to 78 inches, 1971 size to 84 inches. Also notes 40 pound limit for parcels under 150 miles. Alaska and Hawaii see no change, remaining 70 pounds and 100 inches.
