United Press International reports Hoosierland faces extreme heat with highs around 100 degrees in the south and unofficial 102 in downtown Indianapolis. Judge John A. Foland of Mrs. Boone County Con test nearly died when his 1959 Volkswagen was struck on US 421 near Kirklin. Richard D. A five nation communique from London and Vientiane urged an immediate cease fire in Laos. A sailor Renato Mendoza 22 returning from leave sprinted across the Gold Star Memorial bridge and dived into the Thames River to reach the USS Piper as it moved out to sea.
