Report from Bikini Atoll details preparations for upcoming atomic bomb tests. Evacuations completed for workers and military personnel aboard ships and aircraft, with crews and vessels stationed for operation. Admiral Blandy leads a wide array of support ships, bomb components, and instrumentation as the countdown begins and testing gear is positioned across the atoll.
Shanghai bulletin reports General George C. Marshall launching an urgent bid to extend the China truce while Nationalist forces reportedly position for a hard battle against the Chinese Communists. In Batavia the Jakarta radio says Premier Sutan Sjahrir has been kidnapped.
A 1941 Buick driven by Ora M Lawler of Lebanon collided with a parked car owned by Wendell Iddings on South East Street. Iddings car then hit a third car belonging to Frank B McLan of Lebanon. No injuries reported. Lawler’s car valued at 150 dollars, Iddings at 100. Mohan car undamaged. Police charged Lawler with reckless driving.
State's Attorney William Tuohy announced that William Herrens, 17, a University of Chicago student, is the kidnapping suspect in the Suzanne Degnan case. He said sufficient evidence, including fingerprint matches, exists to present to a grand jury, though no conviction yet. Police noted Herrens offered no alibi and made conflicting statements. United Press reports a likely bumper wheat harvest across southern and central Indiana. Weather officials note ripening nationwide while Purdue's Charles J. Murphy says central Indiana fields show unusually heavy shocks and a better-than-average yield. Farmers expected to shock and thresh their grain.

Adri Artman has discharged from Army Air Forces at Separation Center in Ireland after serving in Greenland and Iraq 1945 46. Bidding completed for 16 golf foursomes at a county sale in Aberdeen Shewan district. Auctioneer Mike Henderson led the lively bidding with team seven selling for 27 dollars and team four for 74 dollars each. Proceeds will fund four prize prizes awarded to owners of the winning teams with members and bidders named.
Marion's American Legion baseball team travels to Lebanon to face the Royal Legion nine at Memorial Park Diamond Sunday at 2:40 PM. Mount and Jackson form Lebanon's battery, while Roach and Bradley will work for Marion.
The Lebanon Reporter and The Indianapolis News will host five local boys Sunday on a trip to Coney Island near Cincinnati Ohio. The group leaves early Sunday by car to Indianapolis then bus to Cincinnati and returns Sunday night. The trip rewards carriers who turn in 10 new subscriptions for 13 weeks or longer. The boys are Bobby Joe Ashley Morris Coons Idoe Tom Cole Max Hanlon and Charles Taylor. About 100 boys from Indiana will also go.

Washington early this week reports from Agriculture Department spokesmen indicate more butter will reach consumers next week as the military set aside program ends tomorrow. About 44 million pounds have been taken under the program in two months, roughly 20 percent of national creamery butter output.
British armed units moved to root out terrorism in Palestine, occupying Jerusalem and raiding Jewish offices. Hundreds of Jewish leaders were arrested across Palestine as curfews and censorship were imposed. Armored cars, tanks and planes patrolled the city while the Jewish Agency and Zionist bureaus were occupied. casualties minimal as curfew kept most indoors.
Boone County Cub Scouts from Packs 339 3 and 359 will receive awards at a special presentation Tuesday night July 2 at 7 30 at First Baptist Church. Cubs parents and friends are invited. Cubs with advancement cards should bring them to the ceremony. Bernard F Pender, Boone Scout Executive, says the event ensures all county Cubs receive awards before summer ends.
Mrs Minttie Quinley of Lebanon was elected vice president at the Indiana Federation of Women’s Republican Clubs sixth biennial convention in Indianapolis. Mrs Mabel Frasier of Delphi presided as state vice-chairman. Eight delegates and alternates were chosen for the National Federation convention in Philadelphia. Local attendees from Boone County included several listed members.
Three Boone county men are among 192 Indiana officers nominated by President Truman for permanent commissions in the Regular Army. The group totals 9,800 officers chosen from over 100,000 applicants after World War II. Nominees must be Senate-confirmed and will serve a three-year probation.
Clyde Armstrong of the Memorial Park Board asks citizens to protect Labaton Memorial Park from destruction and reckless driving. Officials report signs ignored and vehicles cutting across lawns endangering people and damaging park grounds and equipment.
Washington June 29 The President vetoed the OPA extension bill and urged Congress to pass a full year extension with subsidies and price controls. He warned ending price controls at midnight would bring urgent inflationary harm and called for safeguards to raise production and adjust ceilings as needed. He slated a 9 a.m. EST radio address to explain the veto and urged action before the law expires.
