Carmel Ind June 29 J R Moftit a leading farmer of central Indiana died suddenly of congestion of the stomach at 24 m yesterday at his home while cutting wheat He was a brother of W C Moftit of Nora His standing as a Republican trustee in Delaware township despite Democratic leanings is noted He leaves a widow and several minor children Burial will be at 10 a m Saturday.

Omer Bowen Dead at Sixteen in Jefferson Township

Omer Bowen aged sixteen years eight months and seventeen days, son of James H. Bowen of Jefferson township, died at 7 a m after a six month illness with consumption. He leaves two brothers Harper and Edgar and three sisters Eile Marie and Nora. He belonged to the Christian church at Pleasant View. This is the fifth family death in four years. Funeral will be held at Pleasant View at 10 a m Sunday with Rev. As L Carney officiating. Burial at Pleasant View.

Girls leap from burning dormitory in Knoxville

A fire at the Knoxville County Industrial Belioolly dormitory forced fifty eight young girls to jump from second or third story windows as stairways were cut off. Under teacher Miss Mattie Williams the girls laid mattresses from windows and jumped onto cushions, with no panic and no injuries. The building was destroyed.

Rev J F M Daniel Dead Well Known Methodist Minister

The Crawfordsville Journal reports the death of Rev J F McDaniel a prominent Methodist minister of the county who died at his East Jefferson street home shortly after midnight. Born May 23 1823 in Bourbon Kentucky he served in numerous Indiana circuits and appointments before moving to Crawfordsville in 1890s and later taking a superannuated relation in 1892. He was twice pastor at Burlington and will be buried there with funeral at Crawfordsville at 1 p.m. today.

Natives Hanged and Flogged After Village Attack

Cairo June 29 A court sentence carried out against natives involved in the June 13 attack on a party of British officers near Demshawal. Four natives were hanged at Demshawal, five flogged, as crowds watched from 200 yards. Executions and floggings concluded at 4 30 p m with guards surrounding the enclosure.

Death of a Pioneer John H Shelley dies at Walnut St home

The Advance Hustler notes the death of pioneer citizen John H. Shelley at his Walnut Street home on a Tuesday morning at age 74 years eight months and twenty days. Woman puts oil on daughter and herself in failed arson act

Mrs Sarah McDowell a 77 year old widow of St Bernice poured oil on her clothing and her daughter Mrs Sarah Wishart 50 then set fire to herself in a rage. The daughter escaped while Mrs Wishart died after hours. Authorities note her mind had been failing for some time.
