Boone Special Olympics Team Wins 26 State Medals at ISU
Boone County sent nineteen athletes to the Indiana State University campus in Terre Haute for a two and a half day State Special Olympics. They earned 26 medals across swimming and track and field events and were named the second best outfitted team. Golds went to Janice Weaver Mark Phelps Rebecca Carter Fred Parr and Greg Schluep. Silver medals went to Rebecca Carter Joette Cross Ruth Dukes Steve Warburton Paul Cunningham Ricky Musser Janice Weaver Greg Schluep Betty Reese and Karen Collins. Bronzes went to Tammy Kouns Jerry Lee Stanley Dickey Janice Weaver Jerry West and Karen Collins. Donations funded the trip from numerous local organizations and clubs.

July 4th Parade to Feature 100 Units and Seven Bands
More than 100 units including seven bands from Lebanon and nearby towns are slated for the Lebanon July 4th parade led by chairman Charles Slaughter. Entries remain open as the festival runs a full week with vespers, sports contests, a pet parade, art show, rock band contest, and a fireworks finale at Memorial Park. The procession begins 1:30 p.m. at Lebanon High School and travels a route along Alen Drive Meridian Street North Street and East Street before returning to the school. The Boone County Shrine Cycle Club adds flair with Honda 90 displays. An estimated 10,000 attendees are expected for the peak events through Saturday.

Boone County plans an exemption for church basters and ice cream socials from the proposed health permit fee and inspection law. The ordinance would charge 5 dollars per year and 50 cents per vending machine, with 30 days to meet standards after inspection.
