Dr. Daniel Ellsberg surrendered to federal authorities in Boston admitting he was the source for the New York Times Pentagon papers on Vietnam. He spoke of acting as a citizen and criticized government classification while delivering documents to the Times and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. About 100 MIT supporters and media packed the scene as Ellsberg entered the Post Office Building housing the federal courts and Travers' office.

Linda Boyd wife of Charles Boyd of Lebanon won the Mrs Boone County title in 1971 after beating 20 contestants in a Saturday night pageant at the LHS Auditorium. The event drew about 500 attendees amid nonworking air conditioning. Boyd, a beauty culture graduate and part time beautician, heads the local Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division and volunteers widely in civic causes.

Two Boone Men Killed In Weekend Mishaps
Two Boone County men both veterans and active in 4-H work died in separate weekend accidents. Wallace Sherman Schenck 39 of Lebanon was crushed when a tractor overturned on his parents farm near Brownsburg. Paul E. Neiman 44 of Zionsville died after being struck by a stock car at Spreedrome race track in Indianapolis while serving as a flagman. Funeral plans set for Brownsburg and Zionsville.

Speck Conviction Back To Illinois
The Supreme Court overruled the death sentence for Richard Speck and sent the case back to Illinois courts for reconsideration. Jurors cannot be automatically disqualified for opposing capital punishment. they may be questioned to determine bias. Speck remains guilty with the death sentence reversed, as the judgment only on the sentence was overturned.
