Jail escape fugitive arrested in Bloomington chase
Ira Richard Chandler, who escaped Montgomery County Jail in Crawfordsville in April with Frederick Irvin Jones, was captured in Bloomington after arriving by cab from Indianapolis. Chandler faced Montgomery Circuit Court on a shooting and robbery charge from New Year’s Eve. Jones was jailed for attempted car theft and later reportedly fled to Florida.

Riley Appears In County On Death Charges
Harold G. Riley 58 of Moline Illinois turned himself in to Boone County authorities after waiving extradition in connection with the death of three people including Indiana State Trooper Richard G. Brown last September 27. Riley is charged with reckless homicide and manslaughter for allegedly driving a truck that rear ended Brown’s patrol car, causing a fire that killed Brown Myers and Paschal. Bond set at 2000 dollars. Also in court Carter B. Burdine 21 of Jamestown pleaded guilty to possession of burglary tools with a pre sentence investigation ordered and Judge Paul Johnson Jr to sentence him this afternoon.

Sirhan Granted Three-Week Plea Deadline in Kennedy Case

Graduate Extension Class To Be Offered At LHS This Fall

Lau Blower Company buys the Hicks Bus Body building on Indianapolis Avenue and launches a Lebanon Division to manufacture propeller type exhaust fans and blowers. Canning Plant Damaged By Fire At Trafalgar Indiana
In Trafalgar Indiana a fire likely from faulty wiring damaged Rider Canning Co plant. President Jack M. Rider estimated losses at 200000 dollars. Blaze started above a loading dock. assembly line labeling and cooling areas suffered extensive damage. Two trucks with thousands of empty cans were destroyed. Firemen fought the blaze about an hour. A Rider plant at the same site burned in 1954.
