United Press International reports two pedestrians died Thursday, pushing Indiana's highway toll to at least 553. Halstead, 18 months, was struck on Indiana 32 near Randolph County by Richard Amburn, 31, of Muncie. James Coufsoulos, 57, of Newport News, died after a car hit him on an Evansville street near relatives' home. Driver James Best, 19, said Coufsoulos may have walked or fallen into the path. Earlier, Joseph Eler, 41, of Winamac, died in Indianapolis hospital from a collision near Winamac last weekend.
