Charles Smock was named Outstanding Jaycee of the Year at a Lebanon Senior Chamber meeting. Ras Kesper announced the award as Smock completes his term as state society president and serves as Lebanon Senior Chamber president. The event included installations and remarks by local officials and committee chairs.
Frank Williams, a former resident, died Sunday after a yearlong illness at Chesterton. Funeral services are set for 2 pm Wednesday in Chesterton. Survived by his widow and five children, with brothers, sisters, and a mother listed among relatives. He had lived in Lafayette Crawfordsville Michigan City and other Indiana towns before moving to Chesterton eight years ago.
Joan Piersol age 18 as a juvenile received a two to fourteen year suspended sentence for forgery. Judge Charles F Thompson revoked the suspension in Circuit Court after police say she was intoxicated and dancing on a downtown street with two boys and another car. She will be sent to the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis.
Washington reports a three way split among Senate Democrats over the tax revision bill. The measure would cut taxes and receipts by about 1.49 billion dollars in its first year, with floor debate expected to begin in the Senate as leaders aim for quick passage. House approval already obtained, extra sessions promised, and debate on debt ceiling considerations tied to future money bills.

An Indianapolis man James Enbry age 20 suffered a fractured hip and a Lebanon child, Mary E Tate age 8, received a broken left arm at Memorial Park playground on Sunday. Enbry was thrown to the ground when his water chain on a swing tightened while he exited. Tate was playing on the monkey bars when she was injured. He was taken to Witham hospital for bone surgery tomorrow.

The event showcased the degree team’s farm theme, a fundraiser netting 358 dollars for the Memorial Foundation Fund for Children, and the Ladies Auxiliary finishing third in their field.

Charles Vines a blinded World War II Marine veteran leaped into the dark Paxcagoula River to save 18 year old Anne Louise Ball and 17 year old Barbara Waed. He then helped James Peacock and guided Barbara to shore as the trio fought a strong current. Vines swam about 200 yards overall and returned with the injured.
