Parolee Shot During Lafayette Burglary
In Lafayette Indiana a 40 year old parolee Earl Stacy died from wounds after charging two patrolmen during a tavern burglary. Police had spotted two men inside and urged surrender. Stacy shouted a defiant challenge before lunging. He died at St Elizabeths Hospital after saying he wished to die. His companion fled as officers pursued him.

Festival Opens on Week-long City Pageant
The July 4th celebration begins with five Mrs. Boone County finalists from 21 entrants. Finalists are Shary Atkinson Alice Jean Dickerson Marjorie Lasley Judy Ritter and Joan Shoemaker. The winner will be crowned at 10:30 p.m. tonight at the Lebanon Armory by last year's queen. The event also features a coronation ball, dances, tennis tournament, and a Golden Age Picnic with park events and a vespers service. The pageant week attracts thousands as Memorial Park hosts crowd events and a Rides unit sets up shop. In Denver a one sided fashion show drew grumbles as photographers viewed a topless swimsuit.

Wallace Takes Rotary President Post for 1964
Charles I. Wallace, community leader and Wallace Filter Company president, was installed as Rotary Club president, succeeding Junious Clifton.
