John S. Shockley twenty six, a Central Union Telephone Company lineman, fell about fifty feet from Cruse and East Washington streets. He struck his head and shoulders, probable skull fracture. Witness Samuel Holycraft, nearby, did not see the fall. Shockley died en route to City Hospital. he lived with aunt and uncle at 2094 State Street.

Big Four Bridge Pier Collapses Into River
A Lafayette special reports the New York Central bridge over the Wabash River collapsed Thursday afternoon as Big Four No 18 neared second pier bound for Indianapolis. Experts rushed to the scene to save the bridge and trains on the Big Four and Lake Erie and Western railways were halted. The stone and masonry crash was heard for blocks and the pier fell into the river causing heavy damage.
