Three Boone County Men Rescued After Sugar Creek Float Trip
Three Clauser brothers Jack 37 Buford 35 and Danny 15 of Indiana left Darlington at 7 am Sunday in a 12 foot aluminum boat on Sugar Creek. They were reported missing after failing to reach Shades at the designated time. State Police and a helicopter joined a large search before the trio turned up safe at 10 30 am near Shades Park. They endured a rough journey through rapids and spend a hectic night on the 27 ½ mile trip.

Oldtimers Celebrate Lebanon High School Class Reunions
On Saturday June 24 Lebanon High School housed reunions for the 1916 and 1917 classes. Fifty eight graduates in 1916 with 18 deceased and 57 in 1917 with 14 deceased. 18 from 1916 and 23 from 1917 attended the dinner with spouses. A school tour led by James Gabbard highlighted recent expansions. Don Higbee delivered the main address. Mrs Simmons and Mrs Saylor spoke for memorials. Prizes honored travel, children counts, and family ties. Rue Williams traveled far from Fort Lauderdale.

Indianapolis Cop Capture Ends Jail Escape In Park
Michael Layton a 27 year old convicted holdup slayer captured in Indianapolis after escaping Shelby County Jail. Police closed in on him in Brookside Park as a stolen Shelbyville car linked to the escape was found abandoned near Layton in laws home. Layton had threatened his ex wife and used a food chute to escape the jail and face new trial for the 1960 service station attendant killing. Layton previously received two life sentences, then had his conviction reversed by the Indiana Supreme Court prompting a new trial.

Delphi Guardsman dies in car crash near Camp Grayling
George M. Grominger a 20 year old from Delphi Indiana was killed when his car left the highway near Houghton Lake Michigan and struck an abutment. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard Infantry Division which had just completed summer training at Camp Grayling.

Pigeons Hit By Fire During 300-Mile Race Run
About 650 racing homing pigeons were destroyed in a truck fire near Rockfield Indiana while en route from Detroit to Lafayette for a 300 mile race to Detroit. The driver John Golem bieski escaped injury and the pigeons valued at about 20 dollars each.
