Four Hurt Today When Auto Rolls In County

Mrs. Paul Neuman announces June 30 is final day to register for the Lebanon Public Library Summer Reading program. Sponsored by the Library and Psi Iota Xi Sorority, activities run until July 31. About 175 students from fourth through eighth grade have signed up, with 45 finishing so far. The Star Contest has 140 second and third graders registered, who receive pins after reading five books and see their names on school charts.

Migrant Crop Workers Lose Auto In Crash

Four Mexican farm workers were hurt when a 1956 Ford rolled over on a Boone County highway near Lebanon at 7:20 a.m. Driver Rodolfo Domingouez and three passengers were treated for non critical injuries at Witham Hospital. Florentino Ybarra, 59, owner of the car, was not hurt. No citations issued. The group had been returning from Michigan after cherry and berry picking when the crash occurred. A nearby physician aided one victim. The car was a total loss.

Gennaro Takes Helm of Lebanon Rotary Club Friday

Joe Gennaro assumes the presidency of the Lebanon Rotary Club at a Friday meeting at Allen Country Club. Outgoing President Charles I. Wallace received high praise from Wilbur Whitehead, with a year-end report showing 72 members, 94.77 percent attendance, 444 make-up meetings, and 370 visitors. New officers include George Donaldson as vice president and Tom Christian as secretary.

Probe Opened In C135 Crash At El Toro

A UPI report details the C135 transport crash at El Toro Marine Air Station California that killed 84 military personnel. Officials probe possible mechanical failure as FAA plans a 10 day inquiry. The craft with 12 crew from McGuire AFB vanished after takeoff and struck Loma Ridge while en route to the Far East.

Dominican Revolt Quelled in San Francisco de Macoris

UPI reports Dominican troops and police crushed a rebel outbreak in San Francisco de Macoris, the republic’s third largest city, after a pre-dawn battle that killed at least eight. Loyal forces under Maj. Gen. Antonio Imbert Barrera, governing from Santo Domingo, regained control despite a surprise attack on a police station near the railway terminal.

Borah Named Director of Indiana Planning for Commerce

John D. Borah aged 45 of Evansville has been appointed director of planning for the Indiana Department of Commerce. Lt. Gov. Robert Rock, who heads the department, cites Borah's broad background in state, community and city planning and notes his current role as president of Community Action Programming in Poughkeepsie New York.

Two Hoosier Women Die In Fiery Indiana Crash

A fiery collision northwest of North Vernon killed two women identified as Barbara Waltz and Juanita Griffin. An unidentified man trapped for an hour was hospitalized in extremely critical condition at Columbus. The crash occurred on Indiana 7 near Scipio, Jennings County, as the pickup truck overturned and the wreckage burned.

Mrs. Ann Gary Named Advertising Manager at Lebanon Reporter

Mrs. Ann Gary of Lebanon was named classified advertising manager for the Lebanon Reporter, succeeding Mrs. Sam Eitnier who resigned to devote full time to family. Eitnier had served seven years with the paper. Gary, wife of Robert Gary, has two children and is a Whitestown native who moved to Lebanon after high school and worked part time at the paper for three years.

Mrs Boone County Ball crowns 1965 queen in Lebanon

Five finalists were named for the Mrs Boone County crown to open Lebanon July Fourth festivities. The coronation at Lebanon Armory begins 9 30 p m with the queen crowned at 10 30 p m. Finalists include Mrs Max Cowan Mrs Devon Gillan Mrs George Green Mrs James Mossman and Mrs Donald Spees.

Farmer repels raid as 3 bandits invade Louisiana farm

In Lafayette Parish Louisiana three gunmen tried to rob a farm family. The farmer, identified as David Arceneaux, shot and killed one suspect Robert Elias after the intruder entered the bedroom. A second suspect Douglas Simmons was arrested. a third fled, with sheriff searching for him.
