Clinton Township initiates five week kindergarten sessions starting July 1 from 8:45 to 12:45 daily. Enrollment is open to children beginning school in September or the next September, with students from surrounding areas welcome.
Federal Judge William Steckler in Indianapolis accepted Burress 36 a plea of guilty to embezzlement from a post office. He received 60 days in county jail and ordered restitution of 698.32. Burress formerly lived on Washington Street Lebanon and was a former Lebanon car dealer and postal clerk. He turned himself in Chicago June 2 and is the father of eight. Postmaster informed restitution will cover the loss.
A Belgian military plane participating in a drill exploded in air and crashed into a hillside near Augustdorf in North Rhine Westphalia. Police report 38 of 47 paratroopers and crew were killed, five escaped unharmed, and two were hospitalized. The crash occurred in a barren training zone.
Henry C Ven, international contractor, died May 17 and probate opens in Boone Circuit Court. Six relatives receive equal shares of the bulk of the estate, while bequests include $1,000 each to Joseph Carpenter and Edna Stevenson, who both died soon after. The executor is Boone County State Bank.
The Indiana Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional a section of the 1635 law that restricted optometrists to practicing only in their city of residence. The decision reversed the Board and Lake Circuit Court which had upheld a six month suspension for Hughs E. Cassidy of Chesterton and Gary. The ruling also indirectly upheld newspaper advertising by a company in the same offices as the eye specialists. Only three of five justices joined in the major ruling.
President Kennedy visited Berlin and viewed East Germany from the Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie. He addressed West Berliners calling himself a Berliner and said winds of change are blowing across the Iron Curtain, sparking massive crowds and strong praise from officials and onlookers. He noted that truth never dies amid signs of reform within the Soviet bloc.
Obituary notice reports Laura Hutzler age 85 and Franklin Lane age 64. Both residents of 915 North Ritter Ave. and connected with Saint Mary Hospital in Indianapolis. Deaths occurred yesterday, obituary page 1 lists details of their lives and affiliations.
Voters in Sugar Creek Clinton and Washington Townships backed the Thorntown Metropolitan School district merging three townships while Marion Adams and Union Township residents rejected the plan. Thorntown area turnout ranged 32 to 66 percent with Clinton Township vote nearly split 167 yes 166 no.
The Rev. Stanley H. Peterson will occupy the pulpit at Trinity Lutheran Church this Sunday. Ordained May 22 in Peoria Illinois by the Illinois Synod, Peterson previously served in Portland Oregon and holds degrees from Augustana College and the Lutheran School of Theology. He and his wife and seven month old daughter Sonia Marie will reside at 507 North Grant Street in the Lutheran parsonage.
Marvin Brock, 38, was photographing a herd in a pasture when the buffalo charged, trampling him. Anderson friend Jack Butler fought off the animals with a club, saving Brock. Brock survived to seek treatment at a local hospital for a punctured lung and serious injuries.
About 15 agricultural officers from 12 Central States toured Arbor Acre Farms in Boone County yesterday. They viewed breeding facilities and dined with host Henry Mangus. The group then visited Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine and Indiana farm program leaders prior to concluding the tour Sunday.
Sweden charged retired air force colonel Erik Wennerstroem with spying for the Soviet Union for five years. Foreign Minister Nilsson declared Russian diplomats persona non grata as Sweden accuses Moscow of breaching law. Wennerstroem reportedly received large sums, living in Djursholm near Stockholm and hosting lavishly as defense ministers denounce the damage to national security.
Former Indiana Supreme Court justice Michael L. Fansier died in a nursing home in Indianapolis. A Democrat, he was elected to the court in 1932 during the Roosevelt landslide while living in Logansport and practicing law in his father’s firm. He was a Cass County native.

Boone County Planning Commission approved a zoning change from residential to business for two parcels along SR 334 near Zionsville Eagle Township to permit a drug store and a doctor office. The action moves to county commissioners for final passage as objections from Eagle Village residents await petitions. Dr Robert Messinger seeks a dental clinic on US 421 with space for 34 cars. construction already begun.
