Laurel June 26. Wiley Campbell a mulatto confessed to an assault on Mise Alice Barefield near Cocos Alabama. He was captured, identified by the young woman and her mother who was injured. He said he intended to kill them if not frightened off by a dog. He was hanged after confession as a mob dispersed.
