Purdue How to Study in College Course Comes to Lebanon

Purdue University offers the How to Study in College course in Lebanon for the second time this year. Prof. Allen Scherzin of Purdue Indianapolis will teach six high school graduates in Boone County during August. The five‑lecture program covers listening, note taking, planning schedules, exam prep, and campus life coping strategies. Lebanon class runs July 29 to August 2 at Lebanon Junior High School with morning and evening sections available locally and in Indianapolis. For details contact J. J. Five US helicopters crash in Saigon area killing 36

UPI reports five American combat helicopters lost within 24 hours near Saigon. A freak three‑ship collision killed 29, including 16 Thai soldiers and one South Vietnamese trooper. Two UH‑1 Hueys were shot down, one gunship fell in a marsh, and airlift operations were suspended amid thick clouds and bad weather.

Zagrovich to lead Indiana AFL CIO as Sells resigns

Willis Zagrovich of Gary will become president of the Indiana AFL CIO on July 1 when Dallas Sells steps down. Sells announced his resignation at a news conference, saying he will resign July 1 after 10 years as president, and may pursue public relations work in Washington. Sells, a UAW member, cited national level problems and will work temporarily for Raymond H. Berndt. He noted AFL CIO endorsement of Birch Bayh and likely endorsement of Lt. Gov. Robert Rock for governor.

Stolen Car Found In City

A 1968 green Ford station wagon with wood paneling and license 93A2562, reported stolen from Indianapolis, was found about 8:30 a.m. today parked by the Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Lebanon. The car, owned by Downtown Leasing and Financing, Inc., 5500 North Keystone Avenue, had no keys and some belongings left inside. Lebanon Police linked the case to two young suspects picked up earlier by a resident near the edge of town. a man about 20 with red hair and a woman about 20 with blond hair were seen with the vehicle bearing the same plate.

The Rev Harold E Scott formerly of Linton Indiana has been assigned to Otterbein United Methodist Church Lebanon by Indiana Conference South. He and his wife Donna and three sons plan to move this week and he will preach next Sunday June 30 inviting all members and friends to meet him.

Lebanon Officials Review Town Speed Limits Plan

City leaders including Mayor Campbell and Councilman Scott examined Indiana State Highway Department recommendations for SR 32 SR 39 speed limits through Lebanon. Proposed 40 mph on SR 32 west to Noble Street and through to 25 mph north of downtown, with other segments at 50 40 30 and 25 mph as specified, while residents and safety concerns centered on Junior High School area.

Lebanon Firemen Attend Two Day Lafayette Conference

A delegation from Lebanon led by Chief Noble Rose attended a two day Fire Conference in Lafayette sponsored by the Indiana State Fire Marshal Department and the Indiana Rating Bureau. Demonstrations covered aerial and ladder pipes masks foam pit fires and first aid with Lafayette and South Bend instructors. Cooperating groups included state and local fire associations and Purdue with speakers from the state fire marshal’s educational division.

Students end Venice occupation amid exams

In Venice Italy the three month occupation of the fine arts academy by left wing art students ended on Monday allowing fellow students to sit final exams. The protest had aimed at wrecking the Venice Biennial Art Show but ended as exams began.

Lebanon youth Robert Veach killed in Vietnam combat

Robert Veach, 18, of Lebanon, died north of DaNang while serving as a machine gunner with the First Marine Division on operation Allen Brook. His father vowed his remaining sons would not be drafted, as Veach’s body is returned. BUFFY Delays Decision on YMCA Addition to Budget List

BUFFY tabled a vote on admitting the Boone YMCA to its fund raising list until the budget committee fixes this year’s estimated goal. Al de Bedis says most agency requests push the budget higher, with Cerebral Palsy down and Boy Scouts up about 1800. Total current budget may reach 54000 with 56000 more needed for operations and unpaid pledges.
