Former Congressman Driggs was indicted by a federal grand jury in Brooklyn on four counts tied to post office affairs. He appeared before Judge Day and posted bail. The charges allege he unlawfully agreed to receive money from contracts between July 26 and 24, 1900, while in office.
A federal indictment accuses Mr. Driggs in sixteen counts alleging he received emoluments while employed by the government. He pleads not guilty to two labeled counts and reserves plea on others after his lawyer reviewed the charges. He had admitted earning $12,600 from Brandt-Dent for introducing its machines before taking office, and says the work ended before his sworn-in period.
In Macon Georgia Judge Speer fines William Shy Arthur Clawson and Robert Turner 1060 each for holding a negro in involuntary servitude. The sentence is suspended on good behavior with 190 paid fines. The men, prominent farmers, forced a debtor slave to work.
A mob, unaware McCray had left, gathered at the county jail then searched the building to confirm his removal. States Attorney Tefft and Circuit Judge Green promised a special grand jury and swift trial after McCray was transported by train to Galesburg for imprisonment.
Topeka Kansas June 25 The Kansas legislature has been convened in extra session to relieve the Kaw valley flood situation. Thirty four flood bills have been introduced in the house and nearly as many in the senate. A big fight centers on appropriations to aid flood sufferers and bridge building. Governor Bailey did not dictate a plan in his message, saying the legislature should determine relief without prejudice.

A string of brief Indiana notices reports assault attempts on a seven year old girl in Jeffersonville thwarted by bystanders, a life sentence in Michigan City, a manblind from a nitroglycerin explosion in Jolietville, a man identified with a post office robbery, a elderly doctor losing wealth then slipping into madness, an unidentified body in Pittsboro, a boy burned by a match in Terre Haute, a woman’s selfinflicted death in St Louis, and an elderly man killed by a train in Lawrenceburg.
In a late session the bill faced alterations as William O'Brien backed an amendment to grant evicted tenants equality with existing tenants. Wyndham pledged to extend protections under 4% rules and increase tenant advances. Redmond called for broader tenant aid though his amendment failed. Clause 2 and 3 addressing advances to tenants and owners were passed, with non-resident landlord relief and other amendments withdrawn as the house adjourned after reporting progress.

Arthur Cornell of Hartford City was freed on $5000 bail after a coroner's inquest found no link to George White's mob death. About 2000 clamored outside Wilmington city hall demanding release while police guarded the jail. Witnesses described remains found and uncertainty over leaders of the lynching.
