Ex Reporter Publisher Eugene Pulliam Dies at 86
Eugene Collins Pulliam founder of a newspaper empire and longtime publisher of the Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette died at his Arizona home after a cerebral hemorrhage at age 86. He built a regional press network, held AP board duties, and advised conservative journalism. Survivors include his wife Nina and three children. Funeral services were pending.

Ground Breaking For Lincoln Memory Gardens Complex
Groundbreaking set for Wednesday at Lincoln Memory Gardens on Old U.S. 52 south of SR 334 to kick off a 3 million expansion. The Abraham Lincoln Complex will house 3,200 crypts and a chapel for on-site services, with construction to include 86,000 pounds of marble and granite and 83,000 pounds of Indiana limestone.

Merrillville Woman Says She Was Kidnaped
A 22 year old Indiana woman Susan Boer disappeared while visiting Edwardsville Illinois and was found unharmed after a three day abduction. She told police two men in a red van pulled her into the vehicle as she walked to fetch a key. FBI involvement and search for two young white males in a red van were noted. Meany criticizes Ford administration on unemployment and housing vetoes.

Full Agenda For Area Zoning Board Hearing
Six people are slated to appear before the Area Board of Zoning Appeals Wednesday at 7 30 p m in the Courthouse. Jack Kessler seeks a special exception for a Perry Township truck freight terminal on old U S 52 just north of CR 650 South. The plan calls a dispatch office and five enclosed bays and has backing from the Plan Commission. Clifford Richardson also seeks a public recreational facility and home occupation at the old Washington Township grade school on CR 225 West with Plan Commission approval. Marvin Hedrick seeks a special exception for a home occupation to rebuild torque converters for automatics in a barn on U S 421 near State Road 32 with Commission support. John T Ramsey requests a variance for a Marion Township home of 912 square feet planned to be expanded later. 1 524 acres lie east of U S 421 on CR 500 North. Two applicants seek mobile homes: Paul G Parr on CR 200 North about three quarters of a mile east of U S 421 in Marion Township and Mary Lou Wilery for her son on Clinton Township road 375 East and 750 North awaiting eventual home construction.

Lebanon Joins Expanded National Flood Insurance Program
The HUD announces Lebanon is accepted into the National Flood Insurance Program effective June 25 through which local property owners gain access to subsidized flood insurance with higher coverage limits. About 75 homeowners must buy policies to stay eligible for federal building assistance under flood zones, with coverage up to 35 000 for single family homes and 100 000 for other buildings at 25 to 40 cents per 100. Contents insurance up to 10 000 per unit at 35 cents, 100 000 for nonresidential contents at 75 cents. Policies available immediately for 30 days then 15 day waiting period. United Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company serves as servicing agent.
