The Cunard White Star liner Mauretania reached New York finishing half its crossing from Liverpool with about 1000 passengers including notable figures. Fireboats sprayed water as airplanes circled overhead and crowds gathered along the Hudson to welcome the 34000 ton ship, largest built in England, named after the old Mauretania.
Indianapolis Ind February Kerr former president of Continental Credit Corporation Winchester Indiana was sentenced to two and a half years in the federal penitentiary by Judge Robert Baltzell after a trial on charges of violating the National Banking Act. He was a co defendant with John W Moore and Heron in the million dollar fraud case tied to the Continental Credit Corporation.
An all women golf event hosted by the Den Country Club is set for Tuesday June 27 with women golfers leading a regional invitational. Notable entrants include Harnett of Willcrest, Dorothy Ell runner up in Indianapolis, A A McCrane of Frankfort honorary president of Indiana polis and Miss Mary Gorham of Highlands. Total reservations reach 142 from out of town as seven clubs remain to report and expected attendance tops two hundred.
Oklahoma June 24 The U S Junior Association of Commerce backed a permanent and larger Civilian Conservation Corps on a semi military basis. A resolution endorsing this was passed at the Jaycees national convention amid opposition. The group also opposed transferring the forestry department to Interior.
Chicago students at the University of Chicago use a "House of Toys" with 250 parts to visualize physical laws. Prof. Harvey B. Lemon leads demonstrations on lightning, energy, momentum, and vacuum tube lamps to illustrate core physics concepts for learners.
President Roosevelt takes a respite at Hyde Park as Congress threatens filibusters against items on his agenda. The White House pushes a two year extension of the stabilization fund, a seven year pump priming program worth 4.56 billion dollars, and a revised neutrality law to grant broader cash and carry powers to aid belligerents.

Saunders discussed comic strips and the Big Chief Widco character, detailing origins, labor, and earnings while delivering entertaining insights into his profession.

Lisbon reports the Atlantic Clipper began its first observer carrying westbound leg at 10 02 am amid strong headwinds. The Ville de Sainte Pierre, arriving from New York via Horta, said a 40 mph tail wind aided the journey. The Clipper is expected to reach the Azores in eight or nine hours. Ten reporters watched the Ville de Sainte Pierre depart for Bisetitoisse near Bort before they boarded the Clipper for Horta.
London reports a strategic dispute over fortifying the Aland islands in the Gulf of Finland. Finland, Sweden, and Russia debate plans to strengthen defenses, while Germany watches. Russia warns of German seizure if Sweden and Finland proceed. The League of Nations offered no decision, as Ivan Maisky presses for direct assurances.
Tokyo reports Soviet garrisons in Outer Mongolia have been reinforced and airbases expanded at Alangator Tamnsk and Sambia Tamnsk. U S planes shot down reportedly number 12, raising total losses since June to 120. Despite improved Soviet air forces, no crisis with Moscow is indicated. Britain accepts new terms replacing Chinese airline routes and oil properties on the railway. Italian fleet chief in the Far East confirms full cooperation with Japan in North China.
At Mexticacan in Jalisco eleven people were killed and fifteen seriously wounded when drunken bandits fired on worshippers emerging from a Catholic parish church. Among the dead were two children a woman and three policemen. Police chief Cirilo Mendez was among the wounded as troops pursued the attackers into nearby hills. Nearby reports note a separate endurance flight in Springfield as aviators Wilbur Parrish and H[unter] Moddy seek to beat a 218 hour record aboard a 56 horsepower monoplane. Authorities in central Michigan begin hunts for a scar-faced hitchhiker killer who murdered George C. Hall a Detroit promoter, with officers patrolling the highway. Also, the Yankee Clipper departed on a grand circuit with observers aboard awaiting federal clearance for passenger service after five experimental mail flights.
