Gunman Holds Motel Office in Bloomington Holdup
A Chicago motel guest, Carl N. Snyder, 44, was killed when he refused to lie on the floor during a motel office holdup at the Van Orman Suburban Motel in Bloomington. Two other motel employees, Ross Parks and Robert Jenkins, were beaten and hospitalized. Police sought a 28-year-old man with brown hair in blue denim. Snyder, Edna Snyder, and daughter Carla, 14, were overnight guests. Donald Phillips reported the assailant demanded entry to the safe, injured Parks and Jenkins, and left with money for his escape. The suspect fled after a gun misfire sound was heard. The Bloomington motel, near Indiana University, was then placed under heightened scrutiny.
