He was active in campus politics and scholarly honors, including Falcon Club membership.

Maryland's State Board of Education and the Board of Trustees of teachers colleges voted unanimously to abolish racial segregation in five state schools including Frostburg Salisbury Towson Bowie and Baltimore. The action follows the Supreme Court school desegregation ruling and aligns with Maryland counties to enforce integration. A separate rally in Selma Alabama castigated the Supreme Court justices, with calls for impeachment and continued support for segregation, led by Circuit Judge Tom Brady and former Governor Herman Talmadge.
More recruits are needed for Company Q Lebanon of the Indiana Internal Security Corps led by Captain Elvin J. Perkins. Geraldine Mae Shockley aged 55 died at her New Ross home from a heart attack. She married Dr Oscar Clyde Shockley on May 1, 1915 in Danville. Survived by husband, two sons Quentin of Indianapolis and Oscar Jr. of Rockville, two grandchildren, and a Christian Church of Liz ton member. In Wilmington Delaware a 10 year old boy, Lawrence Nichols, collapsed and died in a midcity park amid a thunderstorm. Deputy coroner Isaac A Thornton ruled the death accidental, saying the boy was scared to death by the fierce storm and found no other physical cause.
Washington panel of medical experts backed continuing the Salk polio vaccine program with a vote of four to bold. A letter from Dr William Hammon favored halting the program. Sabin urged substituting attenuated strains for safety, while Enders and Salk abstained as observers. The panel called for replacing Mahoney virus with attenuated strains as soon as practical, while noting this represents a small cross section of experts.
