Skylab Astronauts End Flight In Super Shape

Skylab astronauts Conrad Kerwin and Weitz landed the Apollo command ship on the USS Ticonderoga after a 28 day mission. They reported being in super shape as recovery teams hoisted the capsule aboard the carrier off the Pacific near San Diego. Goldwater blames press bias over Watergate talk

In Indianapolis Goldwater accuses reporters of double standards, claims espionage in campaigns, and says Nixon knew nothing of the Watergate break in while criticizing media treatment of Democrats. Nixon And Brezhnev Pledge To Avoid Nuclear War

Nixon and Brezhnev vowed to prevent military confrontations and nuclear war. They agreed to urgent consultations if risk of conflict arises and signed the policy declaration at the White House East Room before heading to San Clemente. Kissinger said the pact aims to prevent nuclear war and requires no Senate ratification.

Rumble strips urged for Indiana rural intersections

Indiana State Police plan a push to install rumble strips at dangerous rural road intersections. Superintendent Robert K. Konkle orders district commanders to present the proposal to all 92 counties, aiming to curb rising traffic deaths in nonurban areas. The strips alert drivers by producing noise when crossed and should be placed where no automatic signals exist, including flashing light sites.

Rubber Workers Reach Accord With Firestone

Firestone Tire & Rubber Co and the United Rubber Workers reached a tentative three year contract to end a two day strike. Nearly 18,000 workers at 12 Firestone plants nationwide would be covered through April 20, 1976 with improved benefits and pensions. The strike followed stalled negotiations after the old contract expired.
