Seventeen candidates compete in the Mrs Boone County pageant with 21 entrants the largest field yet for Lebanon July Fourth events. Judges meet Friday at 1 pm in the Elks Club Lounge, with a Tea Friday night and final coronation at 9 pm at the Lebanon Armory.

Robber Shot by Own Reflection in Mirror in Oklahoma
Alonzo Talley Jr., 34, an escaped Colorado prisoner, fled June 13 and hid in a Watonga home. He fired at a moving reflection in a full length mirror, was wounded by homeowner Sheppard and police say he surrendered to a farmer before being hospitalized in serious condition with multiple injuries and lost fingers.

Missing Witness Found In Hoffa Trial Case
In Chicago the government said it located Eric Shinkel, a missing witness in the James R. Hoffa fraud trial. Shinkel, chief bookkeeper for Cal Kovens Construction of Miami, is being treated for a heart condition. A court order was sought to have a Miami doctor examine him to assess readiness to testify.

Boone County 4H hosted the Annual Hoosier Hampshire Swine Breeders Field Day with about 250 attendees. Pennville 4H took first in four Hampshire classes, Noblesville FFA was second, and Boone County teams Perry Township and Zionsville placed third and fourth. Car sails over open drawbridge in Milford accident
A 1958 station wagon driven by Raymond Spinosi of Scranton spun over a 50 foot drop when a Housatonic River drawbridge opened unexpectedly in Milford on Sunday night. Police say attendant Robert Woodruff may have tripped a dead man’s switch or a malfunction occurred as the car landed safely on the far bank with heavy damage and no injuries.

City Cyclist Hit By Auto Near Memorial Park
A 14 year old Lebanon youth was struck by a car on North Lebanon Street near Memorial Park while riding a bicycle. Gary L. Dodd of Lebanon was taken to Witham Memorial Hospital for examination and released. The southbound driver Richard Harmon, 20, was turning east and struck the bike broadside. damage to both vehicle and bicycle was about $20. Police reported no injuries beyond the youth’s, and no citations were issued. Police also noted a 1953 red pickup taken from Vendome tavern lot in Lebanon ownership by James Moore.
