Pool accident injures Joan DeAtley at Lebanon Sea Shore

Joan DeAtley daughter of Mr and Mrs Kart DeAtley 524 Barrone Street fell from a high diving board at Lebanon Sea Shore Swimming Pool striking the comptat pier. She was taken to Witham Hospital treated for a scalp wound four stitches and x rays showed no broken bones. She was returned home in good condition and the incident occurred about 930 oclock before the Instructors Aid Course in which she was enrolled.

County Residents Receive Government Social Security Payments

Congresswoman Cecil Harden reported Indiana and Boone County residents receive monthly social security checks averaging about 400 dollars, mainly to those 65 and older and survivors. The report shows 19242 people in 10 counties receive roughly 430 thousand dollars monthly, with Indiana totals about 172000 beneficiaries statewide.

News Commentator Dan Hallenterk Found Dead in New York

CBS TV commentator Dan Hallenterk was found dead by gas in a Manhattan hotel apartment. Police say five gas jets were open and classify the death as suicide. Hallenterk, a Long Island University alum, had received the Polke Memorial Award for reporting on his weekly CBS Views the Press broadcasts.

Fire Destroys Beer Truck on 52 Bypass

A semi tractor trailer carrying empty beer bottles caught fire on the 52 bypass east of State Road 39 near Hall Baker road. Gail Lewis of Council Bluffs Iowa stopped, warned others, and flames caused gas tank explosions and tire destruction. Firefighters saved most of the cab. some cargo burned. Lewis was injured.

Boone Students Earn Distinguished Rating at Purdue

Thirteen Boone county students are named among 1,782 to receive a Distinguished Rating at Purdue University for the second semester of the 1934-44 academic year, based on scholastic averages of B or better. 4 H Plot Gets New Fertilizer Demonstration

A Friday demonstration showed anhydrous ammonia used on a 41 acre tract in Boone County. The project, led by local 4-H members, involved fertilizer produced in Morgantown West Virginia and distributed by a Funk company machine labeled Edward J. The Midwest innovation featured a three row applicator hauled by a tractor with high pressure safety tanks.

Two Drivers Lose Licenses Here

State Police arrested two drivers for drunken driving and they were tried in Justice of the Peace T. A. Robinson's court on June 14. Plane Missing Over Lake Wisconsin Search Reaches End

Indiana and Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol and Air Force crews extended a search for a missing four place Cessna after takeoff from Sheboygan. Buck and three companions disappeared while aiming for Fond du Lac and Crystal Falls. Searchers concentrated over eastern Wisconsin and western Lake Michigan. Buck’s group later reported missing since Saturday. The Indiana CAP wing said storms forced several planes to land under challenging conditions.
