Washington officials weigh plans amid a Carranza led crisis after reports that Pershing likely moved near Villa Ahumada with 3,000 troops. Baker and Wilson seek full Pershing reports before any decision, while National Guard mobilization and border measures accelerate.
International news reports General Obregon admitting full responsibility for the Carrizal clash with American soldiers. Generals Trevino and Gomez are named in dispatches noting American casualties and seventeen captives. Obregon says the fight began after American forces attempted to occupy a Mexican railway station.
Washington June 22 General Hugh L Scott chief of staff ordered all national guard divisions to report immediately this morning. He said mobilization was preliminary to a general order to have all patterns ready to move to the border and respond to General Funston.
International News Service reports Battery A of Indianapolis Battery B of Purdue University and the hospital corps at Indianapolis and Frankfort were ordered to proceed to Ft Harrison within twenty four hours. High guard officials plan to concentrate all infantry at Ft Harrison by Saturday amid a surge in Indiana National Guard recruiting after news of a battle between Mexican and American forces. Six recruiting stations in Indianapolis opened at dawn drawing crowds of young men listening to officers.
A large patriotic street parade is planned for tonight in Lebanon with participation from My America League and the Old Soldiers of Past Conflicts. Four more men joined Co H Indiana National Guard today bringing enlistments to sixty one, with officials hoping to exceed sixty five before orders to move arrive.
Reports from El Paso and Juarez describe U S forces poised for immediate invasion if Mexican treachery at Carrizal is confirmed. Seventeen American cavalrymen reported captured and sentenced to death, with Mexican and American forces massed along the Rio Grande.
Juarez Mexico June 22 The garrison is evacuating the town and entraining for Villa Abumada as Carranzistas are reported to be preparing to stand against American troops moving on that place after the Carrisal fight Three troop trains were loaded this morning and three more ordered southward If resistance develops Juarez will be able to control the situation according to present indications
