Pentagon Papers Case Involves Full U.S. Court Panel
The U.S. Court of Appeals will hear the government appeal over blocking The New York Times from printing a secret Pentagon Vietnam report. A full eight-judge Second Circuit group will convene Tuesday to rule on constitutional questions. In Washington Judge Gesell held two hours of public testimony for the Washington Post, then called a secret session. Doolin said the documents cover Vietnam policy from 1965 and were kept secret as top secret sensitive. The judge also barred a group of congressmen from entering as friends of the court.

In Clinton Circuit Court last week Jean Hladik and Burton Ashley, owners of the Ashley Nursing Home near Frankfort, were awarded about $58,000 plus interest after the state condemned three parcels totaling roughly 1.5 acres for highway and adjacent utility projects. The jury set $5,400 and $8,600 for two tracts, with the state offering $10,000 and appraisers at $17,000. Ashley called the result a slap in the face.
