Indiana Governor announces 10.5 million deposit for property tax cut

Gov. Bowen said 10.5 million from higher sales tax revenue has been deposited with the state treasurer toward a 260 million fund to cut Indiana property taxes by 20 percent next May. The first deposit was made by Revenue Commissioner Donald Clark, with more funds expected to meet the goal. The session drew about 1,500 Hoosier business leaders to review the plan.

St Josephs Pastor Receives Fulltime City Post

The Rev. Charles Kline becomes official fulltime pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church at 319 East South Street starting June 28. He has served since mid March after the death of Rev. James Leah in an Interstate 65 crash. The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana announced the appointment, detailing Kline’s prior role in Kokomo as director of religious education. The report lists additional diocese moves including Rev. Leroy Kinnaman to St. Bernard's Crawfordsville and Rev. Patrick Click reassigned to St. Francis of Assisi Parish with duties at Ball State University.

Lebanon adopts teacher appraisal survey for six schools

A task force of instructors presented a teacher appraisal form at the Lebanon school board meeting. The board approved the annual principal ratings, a possible step toward merit pay, and discussed related school plans including bus repair, year round education, and a swimming pool program with the Lebanon Boys Club.

Nixon Finance Group Guilty Of Not Reporting Vesco Aid

The Nixon reelection finance committee was found guilty on three counts of violating campaign disclosure laws for failing to report a $200,000 cash contribution from Robert L. Vesco. Federal Judge George Hart Jr. imposed the maximum $1,000 on each count, ruling the gift was reportable under the 1971 act. Vesco, Mitchell, and Stans face related indictments in New York.

Mrs Boone County Contest draws sixteen finalists

Sixteen Boone County women compete for the Mrs Boone County title with June 29 at Lebanon High School auditorium as the pageant date. Finalists include Mrs Richard Cox sponsored by Thorntown ESA chapter and Mrs Charles B Yott sponsored by Village Arts and Study Club of Zionsville, among others, each highlighting homemaking skills, hobbies, and community involvement.
