Thomas R. Johnston 74 longtime Indiana information director for Purdue died in a Lafayette nursing home. He led farm news dissemination efforts at Purdue and handled publicity for the Indiana State Fair after a career at Fort Wayne Journal Gazette Indianapolis Star and Fort Wayne News. Johnston briefly sought the Indiana governorship in 1956. Born Bluffton March 1893, he advanced Indiana journalism through community work and innovations in information systems.

Sidewalk Contract Awarded For Court House Perimeter
A contract to build sidewalks around the Court House was awarded to S & H Construction, Inc., Pittsboro, as one of two bids. S & H offered 90% per square foot for outer walks, Burtner Brothers, Lebanon, offered 92%. Estimated replacement costs total about $7,200 for exterior walks with additional doorway and inner walk repairs not slated this year. Grand total bids reach $14,386.47.

1916 17 LHS Alumni To Stage Lebanon Reunion
About 600 graduates from Lebanon High School classes of 1916 and 1917 planned a Saturday reunion in Lebanon. The 1916 class had 59 graduates with 18 deceased. 43 of the 1917 class remain living. A 2 to 4 p.m. reception bills as the kickoff, followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner in the Celtic Room of Sir Vers. Don Higbee of Riveria Beach, Fla., will speak. Mayor Herbert Ransdell will emcee. Lethal Beckham was installed as president of the Whitestown Lions Club during Monday ceremonies at Frank's Restaurant in Whitestown with about 30 attending. New officers include Charles Padgett as first vice president Carl Crane as second vice president Don Melvin as third vice president Frank Cochran as secretary treasurer Vanes Funkhouser as Lion Tanner and John Isenhower as Tail Twister Directors are Jim Burnell and Bill Martin. Retiring president Gerald Padgett presided and introduced Bud Merrill who introduced speaker George McDaniel who spoke on Lion experiences and duties. Pins were awarded to the retiring and new president and to new Lion Larry Hackett. Beckham led a short business session and roll call.

In Indianapolis a federal jury in a stock fraud trial was ordered by Judge Hugh Dillin to witness a flight test of a controversial gyroplane. Perry Central Whitestown Schools Put Up For Sale
Two defunct schools, Perry Central and Whitestown, are set for public auction by Lebanon Community School Corporation. Perry Central buildings, house and acreage will be offered at 10:00 with minimums of 2500 for the house and 3500 for the school. Whitestown building and land will be auctioned at 11:30, with the building appraised at 2000 and the adjacent ball park land excluded due to condemnation. Proceeds go to the General School Fund.
