Workmen Start Clean-Up on Scott-Burr Lots
Workmen began yesterday afternoon to clear debris and fire wreckage from the Scott-Burr site on the north side of Lebanon's square. The former Cason-Neal building was destroyed by fire last September, an event that also damaged Castle Hall and the Thompson cold storage plant. Castle Hall is being rebuilt, while plans for a large modern department store occupy the Cason-Neal site. The debris removal contract went to Howa Heavien Construction Co. of Mulberry, Indiana, with M. A. Watkins negotiating for Scott Burr Corp. A gasoline range was placed in the basement.

Bombers Depend On Tin In War Production
American factories produced 96 369 planes for the Armed Forces worldwide in the year. Each Bev bomber requires 57 pounds of tin and 25 000 tin cans must be salvaged to meet this need. No substitute metal exists for tin in aircraft construction as mining in the United States is impossible. Ninety nine percent of pre war tin supply is held by Japan in the Pacific, prompting a campaign to salvage every tin can and ration metal use.

Lebanon Man Receives Honorable Discharge From Army
Staff Sgt. Clifford English, veteran of 41 months overseas service in the Pacific, was honorably discharged after nearly four years in the Army. Enlisting in August 1941 at Fort Harrison, he trained at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Ord, served with engineers, deployed to Honolulu in 1942, later Saipan, and returned home in May for discharge at Miami Beach after a 23 day furlough.

Indianapolis June 2007 General Walter Bedersouth returned from the Little Red Schoolhouse at Retas where he signed the German surrender documents and heard Eisenhower describe him as a brilliant soldier with an unmatched personal contribution to the Allied cause. Funeral services for Homer Lee Tyre, a Boone county farmer, will be held Thursday at four o clock at Bratton Brothers funeral home. The Rev. James D. Martin will officiate with the Lebanon Elks Lodge providing a ritual service. Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Tyre died after a ten day illness from coronary occlusion. Born September 27, 1881, he was married to Elle M. Stearns who survives.
