The Lebanon Business Men's Association organized a free moving picture lecture at the Olympic theater for Boone county farmers and families, drawing several hundred attendees to hear talks on dairy farming profitability. W C Yutzy and W T Hooton led the program, with R W Imel showing dairy economics and comparing cow versus beef production and the profitability of milk plants for Lebanon.
Wayne Servies spoke on possibilities of dairying at the Eighth Grade Commencement. E. E. Walker of Sheridan, a longtime dairy and butter man, cited a $2,000 yearly return from twenty cows and urged support for a local condensed milk plant in Lebanon.
A district union meeting on Sunday evening at 7 30 on the Main street public square features Rev A L Ward preaching on Religious Indifference with Lebanon Concert Orchestra and Mendelssohn Quartet. If bad weather the event moves to the Presbyterian church. Morning services and Sunday schools proceed at usual locations.
E A Stoll of South Bend visited Lebanon and Frankfort to drum up support for an Indianapolis to South Bend road project linking with the Lincoln highway. He met Mayor Shelby and County Auditor Clark, who was out, and outlined a one day work effort with farmers and motorists, aided by local road equipment and oiling of Boone county segments, with Governor's approval noted.
International reports from Batavia say more than 300 people perished as a cyclone devastated an island north of British Guiana. Hundreds of homes collapsed trapping and killing occupants under the wreckage. The Dutch authorities received advices confirming the toll and extent of the destruction.
At a military aerodrome near Vienna on June 20 a disastrous crash killed nine people including five army officers. Local visitors to the Sheridan Indiana Condensed Milk Co plant report astonishment at its scale and aim to expand the Lebanon operation. Officials note only fifteen U S towns process as much evaporated milk, with sales offices in Boston Pittsburgh Dayton St Louis Indianapolis and Louisville. Pittsburg bought 125000 dollars of condensed milk last year.
A planned 3:30 PM exhibition at Moose Park between the Great Leon and the Wild Bull was canceled after the prosecutor warned promoters it could violate the law. The Sheridan plant story notes Wilson's milk brands top prices, storage capacity for 9,000 gallons, and 1.7 million cans produced last year. It mentions Sheridan growth, wells, refrigeration, and a fatal bee sterilizer testing accident involving W. N. Wilson's father.
President Edward G. Barrows announces within two weeks a third major league united under organized baseball. The planned circuit will include four top International League clubs and four best paying American Association clubs after a two hour National Commission meeting in New York.
A Grand Gold Medal Contest will be held Tuesday evening, June 30, at the Central Christian church under the auspices of the local W C T U. This medal contest has not been held in Lebanon for some time. Participants come from several different counties. The complete program will be published later.
Clarence Sutphin and Mine Geraldins Clarper wed in an unconventional venue at a shoe store, with William involved in the ceremony. Neighbors recall the odd scene and note the couple’s joyous start in Wing Coveidtine Parcels.
A west side square wedding took place when Reverend L Hardy of the Baptist church officiated in a shoe store after Squire N A Perrill was unavailable. The ceremony was witnessed by Lyle Neal H Slagle Tom Campbell and the bride's mother Mrs Abe Parcela.
Mrs. Ethel McDaniel of five miles west of Lebanon fainted at the Olympic theater this afternoon. She was carried to the lawn beside the Garrie Bryan residence on West South Street where she was revived. The faint likely resulted from the crowd and her illness. Relatives cared for her at the scene.
The twentieth annual Antioch church picnic was held in Mundell’s Grove on the T H I E lines with large attendance expected to top 1500. Rev J A Stover pastor and Bert Kern superintendent led the day featuring speeches by Rev J P Barrett editor of Herald of Gospel Liberty, Ralph Cheadel, and early musical programs by Huckstep’s orchestra with a local supper prepared by nearby women.
The Rev. Charles P. Hamilton of Pagsangan Philippines, son of Lebanon's first mayor Samuel Hamilton, visits relatives in the county and will preach at the Thorntown Presbyterian church Sunday morning. He heads the Synod of Presbyterian mission churches in the Philippine Islands.
Katherine Ellis Love aged 86 years 1 month and 18 days died Friday at her home near Hopewell church from uremic poisoning after a three week illness. Born May 1 1828 near Lexington Kentucky she resided 41 years on her present farm and was the Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church’s first charter member. She married Alexander Love January 23 1873. he died in 1903. Surviving are three stepchildren Robert Love Mrs T R Caldwell and Harry Love, a brother Harvey Brookie of Clinton county, thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Hopewell church Laim Sunday by Rev A A Pratt with interment in Hopewell cemetery.
The Past Chief's Association of Narramatah Council No. 10 held their regular meeting at Mrs. Elisha Partner's home Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Thomas Parks and Mrs. Partner as hostesses. A pleasing program followed the business session featuring a dialogue by Mrs. Fannie Butcher and Mrs. Laura Cooper, and a history verse by Mrs. Stella Parks. A guessing contest awarded first prize to Mrs. Margaret Blientein and booby prize to Mrs. Ida Butler. A two course luncheon was served with special guests including Mrs. Lee Hooton Mrs. Harvey Trout and Mrs. Rog Partner.
The State National Bank, a central financial institution in Little Rock, failed to open after an all night board session. A notice on the door stated withdrawals forced the closure and that depositors are expected to be paid in full.
Clarence Hooton son of County Recorder A P W Hooton and Miss Iva Ola Sherrill daughter of Rev C C Sherrill will marry tonight in a small wedding ceremony indicating family ties and local community presence in the event.
St Louis June 20 The Majestic a large Mississippi river excursion boat struck the cribbing of a water works tower at the Chain of Rocks and sank within ten minutes. Of 33 aboard three missing feared drowned. others swam ashore or were rescued. The liner had just discharged 900 excursionists at Alton Illinois and was bound for St Louis.
Gank Cashier and Madge Cox wed by Rev. William Appleby in a quiet ceremony. The couple, unknown to many friends, are connected to the local bank and the Cox family.
