Two men from Holland Michigan died when their car collided head on with a bus carrying 18 Kokomo Dodgers players on U S 31 in Tipton County. The crash occurred late Monday night amid multiple double fatalities reported that day on Indiana roads. The bus driver Paul Da Rt 6 Greenfield suffered a broken foot. one of the players was a Brooklyn Dodger.
President Eisenhower, still recuperating from surgery, spent about an hour at White House business with Sherman Adams and signed four bills passed by Congress. Jerry Shaffer and Larry Ho Richardson, both 16, were in a 1950 Studebaker that ran off State Road 39, 3 miles north of Lebanon. Richardson suffered a lacerated head artery and was treated at Witham Hospital, later released. The car was a total loss and REMC wires were torn down. no charges were filed.

A near cloudburst rain hit Jamestown and Whitestown between 3 and 4 p m with heavy wind storm. US 136 traffic halted briefly as hail damaged crops near Lizton. Jamestown and Whitestown reported large rainfall amounts with basements flooded and 24 hour total reaching 2.91 inches. June total rainfall measured at 3.04 inches per observer Clyde Laughner.
Beene County youth committee on 4 H and community activities met at the courthouse drawing about 30 attendees. The group approved developing the 4 H Exposition grounds south of town and may erect buildings before the exposition begins July 24. Clarence Brown of G S Supplger Co chaired. reports were heard from Eral Weber finance chair and Charles Densmore Barns chair. Floyd McDonald discussed hog and cattle bars the committee plans to add once funds are available.

Father John Borey, parish priest of Tularosa, spearheads the effort with Catholic, Protestant and Jewish participants joining under theAtoms for Peace initiative.
Indiana residents paid 1.57 billion dollars in federal taxes in 1955 with local taxes at 291 million and state taxes at 260 million. Gas and motor vehicle fees comprised 33.7 percent of the tax total while the gross income tax made up 39.5 percent. More than 40 cents of every dollar collected by the state returned to local units for schools highways and welfare.

Gov B Chandler appointed Jo J Leary a 49 year old Frankfort lawyer to fill the late Sen Alben Barkley’s seat in the US Senate. Leary serves until November and is a longtime advisor who co chaired Chandler’s gubernatorial campaign. The Democratic State Central Committee in Louisville set a call for November election to fill Barkley’s remaining four years.
The City Planning Commission met in the City Council Chamber and approved delaying action on the Lebanon district extension until the July 16 meeting with a public hearing to precede formal council consideration. A zoning study remains in progress with an education program to accompany area discussions.
Indianapolis youth David Baines aged 17 made a hole in one on a 100 yard hole at Little America park Monday night and claimed a XK-140 Jaguar roadster valued at $3,700 from Jack Ensley the benefactor offering the prize for a hole in one on the contest course. Ensley pledged the car two weeks prior for any golfer who could ace the hole.
NEW YORK The United Steelworkers Union began negotiations today with 11 steel firms after a strike authorization. Talks with the Big Three stalled as firms like Jones & Laughlin Wheeling Armco Allegheny Ludlum and Great Lakes divided the 11 firms, all aiming for five-year contracts. The union warned time is running short to avert a walkout by about 650,000 steel workers if no contract is reached by June 30.
Four hundred and one boys and girls are enrolled in 20 Agriculture 4 H projects this year. Kenneth E. Lucas, assistant county agent, reports 90 members in beef projects with 47 beef breeding heifers, 5 commercial heifers, 111 beef steers. Sixty-four members join 4 H Swine, with 39 Pit Club sow and litter participants. Dairy projects include 167 members with cows and calves, and four members enroll five dual purpose cows and calves.
Two infants, a 2-year-old girl and a %-month old boy, were found dead from starvation in an East Side tenement. Their mother, Anastasia Velez, 32, was arrested after trashing a tavern and breaking a window. She has been at Bellevue Hospital. no relatives are listed. The couple recently separated. the father Jose Velez, 38, is believed to be with his parents in San Jersey. They had lived in New York since August after moving from Puerto Rico.
Mr and Mrs T Ambrose Robinson attended the funeral of Adolphus Franklin Robinson in Tamms Illinois conducted by Rev Jack Stewart. The service at Farnsworth Funeral Parlors featured church choir numbers and a eulogy by T A Robinson. Interment followed at Anna Cemetery. Survived by a brother in Lebanon and a sister in Anna Illinois.
Secretary George E. Humphrey told 1,200 Indiana Republicans at a Salute to Eisenhower banquet that the president is making a splendid recovery and can win a decisive victory. He urged GOP workers to push for a Republican Senate and House, stressing the need for Indiana's Homer Capehart to remain in the Senate. Attendees included Lt. Gov. Harold Handley and several GOP nominees. Craig was represented by his wife. Humphrey touted defense strength and warned outcomes hinge on congressional control, noting minimal rise in living costs over three years as incomes reach record highs.

In Loganport Indiana William Shaw 29 Lucerne father of three was crushed to death when a 1200 pound bucket of gravel fell on his chest at a farm construction site west of Metea.

Boone County Commissioners heard one request for county wide zoning in Boone County from a citizen group at the regular meeting yesterday morning. The panel included Druley Parker Paul Morton representing the R E M C Livings Brindle Jamestown Route 2 Boone County Farm Bureau president Stanley Hall Lebanon Chamber of Commerce president Beron Jones State Road 32 West. Action on the zoning request was not taken. In other business the commissioners voted to replace two bridges in poor condition one north of Old Union Church across Eel River on Old Union road and another on the Elizaville road northeast of Browns Wonder church.
Samuel Bloom of Chicago, a pioneer in refrigeration and air conditioning, collapsed and died Monday from a heart ailment at 67. Born in Vincennes Indiana, he was Purdue University trained, began experiments in 1920, held multiple patents, and founded a company bearing his name. His firm helped install the first air conditioning system in the Mirreapelis Auditorium. After World War II he worked for the government.
