URT to Hear New Arguments in Tax Case

Post Office Handles Large Weekly Mail Load at Lebanon
The Lebanon post office processed a heavy week declining to include parcel post and other classes. An average of 7,927 first class and air mail letters were handled daily with 51,991 total pieces passing through from Sunday to Saturday. Eight-cent air mail letters dispatched and received numbered 7, and 652 were eight-cent air mail letters received from the United States. King Leopold of Belgium rejected demands to abdicate and announced he would resume full constitutional prerogatives. A statement authorized by Leopold, issued to Allied press via Capt. Gatien Viscount Du Parc, said there is no question of abdication. He plans to return to Belgium to take the throne after five years under German control and a period with the American Army following liberation by the 106th Cavalry.

New York Honours General Eisenhower On Hero’s Day
New York welcomed General Dwight D. Eisenhower with a hero’s tribute as he arrived at LaGuardia Field on a cloudy day. A 1T-gun salute opened Eisenhower Day while throngs along Fifth Avenue and schools sent crowds to witness the event. Sgt. Wil Ransdell Freed POW Returns Home in June Call
Mrs. Herbert L. Ransdell reported a telephone call from their son Sgt. Wil Ransdell who had just returned from Germany and was released from a prisoner of war camp near Virginia. He plans to report to Camp Atterbury and hopes to be home by weekend. He served with an Army Air Force unit in Italy and was taken prisoner July 19, 1944, released May 19, 1945, after which he contacted his parents on June 19. He started in public relations, later requested transfer to the Air Corps.
