A home near Fort Wayne suffered a catastrophic blast likely caused by butane gas cooking. US and Division guards herded 5 600 prisoners from compound 63 and 5400 from compound 10 into smaller 300-man enclosures with little resistance. Prisoners cheered as they fled, some showing wounds from recent beatings by Communist squads. The tally brings total moved prisoners to 61,000 into smaller enclosures or searched compounds for tunnels and weapons. Washington said officials are seeking neutral military observers to inspect the prisoner of war situation as responses to US invitations come in.
Police report an attempted robbery at United Laundry and Cleaners in Indianapolis led to the beating and knife injuries of 34 year old employee Mrs Flossie Downey and a bystander. Her son James Downey chased two suspects as they fled, but shotgun pellets struck bystander Norbert Bauer, who was hospitalized in good condition. Downey could not recall full details due to hysteria.
Public Service Company of Indiana announced a new substation south of Advance serving Advance and Jamestown with plans to also serve Boone County REMC by September 1. The facility, tied to a 69 000 volt transmission line, is part of a 1952 construction project within a 1952 year budget exceeding 52 million dollars.
