The session opened shortly after the appointed hour with County Chairman A Wyck presiding. Completion of organization followed the morning’s call to order, outlining initial duties and agenda items for the meeting.
No Verdict Reached In Hog Shipments Suit
The jury in the damages suit Joshua Shepherd vs Charles Miller and Harvey Neal was discharged with no verdict today after a week of testimony. The last ballot stood five for the plaintiff and seven against. Witnesses from Purdue University and a government inspector testified about hog shipments from Arkansas to Missouri and a dead hog found in transit. Several witnesses said buyers reported losses of hogs’ size and weight, while others claimed disease could not be proved. The parties are believed to have exchanged hogs in good faith.

Horse fright leads to buggy crash on Jamestown road
A buggy crash on Jamestown road injured three people when a horse owned by Dr Gardner became unmanageable and flipped the buggy, ejecting occupants.
