Chester Blubaugh president of the Indiana State Seniors Citizens returned from Washington where he attended an Advisory Committee meeting in the Office of Economic Opportunity. He said the session prepared for the upcoming November White House Conference on Aging and the Aged.
Tokyo and Washington sign a landmark treaty via satellite to return Okinawa to Japanese rule after 25 years of U.S. occupation. Police clash with demonstrators as Japan and the United States agree to keep 88 U.S. bases while returning 46 installations, with ratification expected in 1972.
The Agriculture Department said Southern corn leaf blight has been detected in 19 Indiana counties led by Tippecanoe Hamilton and Marion with Purdue reports noting nine counties affected earlier. Blight is spreading slowly across 18 states with most infections in trace amounts or in volunteer seedlings. The National Corn Blight Information Center says 124 counties in 18 states now report blight, but corn remains generally good.
Hamilton County taxpayers faced a 15041.01 bill for the Fred C. Stuck trial, with 10500 for pauper and appeal attorneys. Stuck, 33, from Stock of Indianapolis, was convicted of second degree murder in the January 11, 1969 shooting of Westfield Deputy Marshal David K. Brown near the Westfield school. A Boone jury found Stuck guilty after a two week trial. Auditor G. Melvin Featherston said a special appropriation may be needed to cover the cost, as only 6500 remained in the venue fund.
In New York a federal judge reserved ruling on whether the New York Times must turn over its copy of a top secret Pentagon Vietnam report. The government seeks access to all documents the Times had received or stolen, excluding marginal notes if possible, as part of a case to block publication of the final two articles.
The forecast calls for fair and very warm conditions today and Friday. Clear and mild tonight with lows in the mid 60s. Daytime highs will reach the upper 80s, with Friday's highs near 90.

She serves in church, chairperson of ways and means for Community Club, treasurer of Little League, and secretary treasurer of 4-H Council. Elaine Heinold of Thorntown, wife of Gary, mother of Chuck and Dean, is sponsored by Epsilon Sigma Alpha and works as Thorntown Methodist Church secretary. She directs Vacation Bible School, participates in disaster and philanthropic activities, and serves in 4H Fair committees and Little League.
About 85 Indians were moved from an abandoned Nike missile base near Richmond by soldiers and police with helicopters overhead. Some 75 were arrested. no violence reported as crowd of youths urged them on. The incident follows the earlier Alcatraz eviction and ongoing land dispute actions.
Boone County Public Welfare director Marion Robbins says aid aims to help eligible residents receive what they deserve. The program handles mainly Assistance to Dependent Children and older cases, with strict limits and local figures showing two percent of Boone County's 30,000 population receiving aid in 1970.
