Paul Van Riper announces the full teaching corps for the 1931 32 year. The staff remains largely the same as last year with two new hires and a possible third for vocational shop work in the new building. Contracts signed include thirty for the senior high and twenty five for the grade schools with subject assignments expected to mirror prior year staffing.
Tony Greco 25 a suspected racketeer was killed as he left Mrs Paul Perconti widow of a murdered liquor wholesaler in Gary Indiana along with a woman wounded by shotgun slugs from an ambush. Police say Greco formerly Perconti's bodyguard in a power struggle that has killed nine bootleggers in a year. A third person James La Greco's brother in law was also involved in the incident.
Funeral services for Mrs John McIntire a former Lebanon resident who died suddenly of heart trouble at her Rushville home will be held Thursday at one o'clock in Rushville with the cortege to Lebanon for burial between three and four o'clock. A brief service will occur at Oak Hill cemetery.
Berlin reports Germany weighing a moratorium on reparations under the Young Plan, possibly July 1 or July 15, with no decision on involving the Bank of International Settlements or declaring a partial halt. A run on Reichsbank reserves intensified by June drains, averaging 130 million marks daily, threatens credit restrictions and jeopardizes continued foreign currency transfers.

Lebanon's first Golden Wednesday drew crowds from across the county and beyond as three o clock cash distribution neared. About forty merchants offered exclusive Wednesday specials with shoppers grabbing bargains. D M Puckett and the Lebanon Chamber Retail Division oversaw the $200 cash distribution across eighteen prizes, with winners to be named tomorrow. Golden Wednesday will recur July 15 August 19 and September 16 with more merchandise bargains.
Angora June 17 Turkish women denied voting in the latest election plan a nationwide campaign to back the People’s Party and press for equal rights in work and politics. Union of Turkish Women targets Ankara Eskishehir and Smyrna, cites women in government posts banks and education, and notes barriers in legal and public service roles.
Muncie June 17 report that Peter Michaels was arrested on request of South Bend authorities for a gang swindle that emptied Masil Naume of 10200. Three other suspects Gladys Smith 24 Walter Smith 44 and Bert Maddox 29 all of Fort were held in South Bend.
Crawfordsville June 17 members of the 1915 Crawfordsville high school graduating class held their yearly picnic and reunion at Milligan park with thirty three present. Walter B Remley, president, sent a letter from Tujunga California read during the program. One death since last year Mrs Vivian Harris Munns. Next year the group plans a reunion again at Milligan park.
Three gunmen raided the home of S. Stanwood Menken, a New York lawyer and civic leader, forcing Mrs. Menken to awaken and open a wall safe. Jewelry valued over 100000 dollars was stolen. the jewels were reportedly insured for 150000. Menken was away at 52 William Street when the robbery occurred. A flower-delivery ruse prompted access as three attackers restrained staff and an upholsterer before fleeing.
Hamilton Bermuda June 17 The Furness liner Bermuda a large motorship in the New York Bermuda service was destroyed by fire in Hamilton harbor. No injuries were reported. Fire began in the forepart of the superstructure and burned toward the stern as crews evacuated. Naval authorities aided but flames overwhelmed the ship, which settled on the harbor bottom. the 1927 built 19086 ton vessel 525 feet long and 74 feet beam was to sail for New York that morning.
Mrs E C Torrez, Mrs Ed Hahn and daughter Miss Beryl from Chicago were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs W A Smith of North West street. They brought a brace of doberman pinschers, one three how many points above standard and two years old. The breed, German in origin, is noted for breeding and policing work. Detroit has long been a center for the breed, with Chicago rising in prominence. H R Ritchie Jr owns a fine puppy sired by Champion Alton Torrez. Miss Thelma Corn of St Louis, returning from Washington visit Mr and Mrs Paul Van Riper and son Paul Jr plans to arrive tonight.
Mrs. Fred Spray of Lebanon was elected president of the United Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary at the 1931 Columbus encampment closing session. The joint convention drew over 300 delegates from 49 auxiliaries, with Indiana’s total membership exceeding 2,400 as the organization marks its 15th year.
Capt. Frank Hawks completed a rapid England to Rome flight, leaving Croydon at 5:31 A.M. and expecting a Rome arrival before noon local time. He aimed to return to London for dinner, planning a 900 mile each way journey.

President Hoover declares no man may stand above the law while dedicating the remodeled Lincoln tomb in Springfield Illinois. He links Lincoln’s legacy to Chicago crime cleanups and federal efforts to enforce prohibition. Hoover recalls Lincoln as a symbol of union and human rights amid changing national responsibilities.
Tokio and vicinity were shaken by a severe earthquake at 9 10 tonight causing extensive property damage and power outages. Areas of Tokio and nearby Yokohama reported damage to lines, with communications disrupted and several sections plunged into darkness.
