Youth Drowns at Stewart Chapel Gravel Pit
Herschel McCoy, 11, son of Oscar McCoy of 116 West Ash Street, drowned while wading in the north pit at Stewart Chapel six miles southwest of here. Companions Ora Hunt and Noble Cook saw him sink in five to six feet of water after he claimed he could swim. Body recovered half an hour later by C. M. Hatton. Attempts at revival by Dr. W. H. Williams failed. coroner Dr. E. A. Rainey declared him dead. Father works as a driver for Metzger Coal and Lumber Co.
