Destructive Wind Storm Strikes County Causing Barns and Fences to Fall
A severe wind storm swept through the county Sunday, causing extensive damage. Barns were blown down on multiple farms, fences and outbuildings destroyed, trees uprooted, and power and telephone lines briefly interrupted. In Lebanon and near Elizaville, homes and structures suffered roof and wall damage, with several silos blown down and debris scattered across streets. Local residents reported damaged property from Jefferson township to the northern county areas.

Cottony maple scale, a deadly disease for maples, has appeared with many trees affected. The pest resembles cotton and releases a cottony tuft as it matures, with each sac housing numerous microscopic insects. Heavily infected trees should be thoroughly pruned and sprayed to prevent spread and protect timber.

George W. Rash died at 7 p m at his home near Hazelrigg after six days of measles illness. He was 68 years 11 months and 11 days old. Born in Indiana he lived in Clinton Montgomery and Boone counties and moved to Hazelrigg. He was twice married and survived by his last wife. Funeral was at his residence with Rev. Hugh Ronald officiating and burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
