Museum Interurban Line Opens at Indiana Museum

The Indiana Museum of Transport and Communication debuts its twelfth season in Noblesville with a restored 60 year old Indiana interurban line. Fifty tons of steel swayed during a test run as 600 electric horses halted at the museum station. The line marks the first passenger railroad built in Indiana in almost six decades. The museum in Forest Park on State Road 19 houses a railroad memorabile collection including Hobbs stationhouse, 15 cars, four electric locomotives, two Pullman sleepers, a dining car, and four box cars. The interurbans echo Chicago North Shore and Chicago Aurora & Elgin lines.

The action targets Marion and seven surrounding counties, with broader auto restrictions avoided due to cleaner-engine new cars, while city officials cite the 1972 ambient air readings as justification.
