Tax Collectors Strip Hushed By Gun At Memphis Dry Cleaners

Tennessee revenue agents were forced to undress by LaSaunders Hudson at his BHK dry cleaners in Orange Mound Memphis. Hudson seized hostage Don Duncan for eight hours demanding to see Gov. Dunn. Duncan released after a meeting with Dunn. Hudson jailed without bond as police plan charges. Isaac Hayes aided negotiations.

Pilots Call Strike Monday To Protest Hijacking

The Airline Pilots Association announces a 24 hour walkout by US commercial pilots on Monday in a worldwide protest against air piracy. ALPA President Cap John J. O'Donnell cites failed UN negotiations and says a one day shutdown will dramatize the issue.

Judge Orders New Union Election for Tony Boyle

A federal judge voided the 1969 UMW election of Tony Boyle and ordered a new vote by Jan 1 under Labor Department supervision. The ruling cites Landrum Griffin violations and targets all officers elected in 1969 including Titler and Owens. The decision follows Yablonski charges, his murder, and ongoing conspiracy and funds misuse cases against Boyle.

Lebanon CSD Board to Study Building Plans

Lebanon School Board will review final Junior High School construction documents from Shaver Co. Architects. Two veteran members will attend their last session, including Dr. R.W. Hardin and Marvin Slagle. The meeting covers new teaching contracts, a fire marshal report, a leave of absence request, resignations, and retirement notices.

Penn Central Seeks Abandonment Of 2000 Miles Of Track

Penn Central Railroad filed in Federal Court seeking permission to abandon about 2000 miles of track across 11 states and two Canadian provinces. Trustees say 39 of 138 segments no longer carry revenue traffic, totaling 209 miles, and continue operation cannot be justified by sound business practices or public necessity. A hearing was set for Sept. 11 by Judge John P. Fullam.

New Change Only Slight In City Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment results for Lebanon elementary students show few changes. Central Principal George Westfall reports Central would gain 18 students, with net plus of six. Harney down eight. Perry Worth down four. Stokes down 14. Survey had 1,668 houses with 58 percent response. Transfers within the district require mid August applications and a one year stay at the new school.
