Becoming fair and warm today with sunny skies. Highs around mid 80s and tonight’s lows near 60. Thursday should be sunny and warm with highs in the upper 80s. Chance of precipitation stays at about 10 percent through Thursday.
The Boone County State Bank won the 250000 dollar courthouse repair bond issue with a bid of 4.456149 and a 745.83 premium, the lowest among ten bidders. The project covers the dome roof furnace and exterior sandblasting, funded over ten years with first redemption in 1972 and final in 1982. Commissioner Brewer Demaree praised the bank for securing the low rate benefiting citizens.
At a Boone County Bank Lebanon board meeting the bank announced a complete departmental reorganization, new officers, and promotions. An Auditor and Controller were authorized, a Small Loan Department added, and an Automated Services Department created around the bank computer system. Several vice presidents and assistant vice presidents were named or promoted, including L Wayne Sipe to Senior Vice President and Shellie Shonk hired as Assistant Vice President and Automated Services Officer as computer equipment is installed.
UPI reports U.S. officials fear New York Times publication of top secret Vietnam war history could aid Soviet decryption of diplomatic and military cables from the early 1960s. DOJ obtained a temporary order halting further publication. The piece notes experts assume coded messages could be intercepted and decoded, prompting security alarms across Pentagon and intelligence agencies. President Walters announced a bank reorganization to handle growth, with directors Armstrong, Morton, Faulkinbury, Franklin, Lenox, Demaree attending. Holloman absent.
The Boone County Sheltered Workshop asks the Lebanon School Board to consider using the defunct Lindbergh School for handicapped training. The board nears a decision within five weeks while also handling staff resignations, new contracts, and budgetary matters for the middle school project.
A meeting occurred yesterday and another is planned tomorrow at mediation offices in Indianapolis between Stewart Warner Corp and Union representatives. The sessions, called by the Federal Mediation Service, aim to resolve a strike now in its 12th week as officials from both sides could not comment on progress.
From a field of 21 contestants a 1971 Mrs Boone County will be chosen Saturday June 26 to reign over the July 4th Festival. After interviews the top five will be announced and the queen crowned by Mrs Ronald Boone with a reception at Central Christian Church.
