After a cloudburst a twenty foot wall of water swept Willow Creek into Heppner Oregon drowning at least five hundred residents and washing away much of the business district. Relief trains from The Dalles and Portland carry doctors and supplies while Portland raises five thousand dollars for survivors. Lexington and nearby areas suffered property damage but few lives were lost. The town sits at Willow Creek’s bend where several mountain streams converge.
